We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian D. Maddison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian D., why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued this career of being an author because of my love of words, forming them into art, and being creative with how I present them all to you. I’ve ALWAYS had a vivid imagination, have many talents, and am VERY creative. Whether it’s singing, cooking, baking, or school projects, it’s always been in me to be great, so I have grown into greatness, surpassed my childhood dreams, and developed into the person I was to become.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m different because I’m the new SIA. You will always hear me, but it’s rare for me to be seen. What sets me apart from other authors is that I’m a man writing for women in a female-dominated profession.

I’m most excited about my new venture with Mindful Village Publishing, a black, female-owned publishing company.

I was encouraged to publish a book by my friend, Mr. G. It wasn’t and still isn’t easy since I write in two genres, relationship poetry and erotic romance. I have more than two sides, and they are all incorporated into my writings.

Starting something new is never easy. The writing is simple. I am passionate about making people engage and process their unfiltered feelings and emotions.

The first thing I had to overcome was the money aspect. Giving it to make “my baby” and knowing I may not make it back had me twisted up. My second challenge was the negativity from friends and strangers. The “I hope it’s good” thoughts or the “What am I doing” thinking. People are people, and no one is perfect, but to crush someone’s dream in their face and blow the pieces back at them is more than cruel. It takes a lot to create a book and get it published.

In this day and age of social media, one feels as though one must stay relevant to become famous and make millions, as seen in videos, talk shows, music videos, and award shows. It’s not an instant overnight career. Here’s the simplicity of it all. If people don’t know you, they won’t trust you and won’t purchase anything from you or take anything for free, for that matter. Trying to be anonymous while giving people what they need, ask for, and desire in a not-so-cute package. That’s the challenging part of all of it.

The challenges will ALWAYS be there. The more your status and brand grow, the more complicated the challenges become. I look forward to the challenges. It makes me fight harder, write more and create and produce better books for the people. To me, people, the haters, are my challenge. To have them not be able to process the wording, the flow, and the cadence, enthralls me and makes me giggle inside just a little. Watching someone read my erotic romance book, For… who’s never been in those situations, is intriguing. They can’t follow the jargon or the sex. The challenge of getting THOSE people to not only read your books but also transition into colossal fans. THAT’S the payoff!

I’ve learned to become less trusting in certain situations, to read the fine print, and to be more open to learning new things.

I want the world to know that I am here, my brand is new and seductive, and my story is complicated. One day all will be revealed, and it will all come together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I LOVE food!! I love going and experiencing new restaurants, plus my friend, (M. C. Davis) does Google Maps and reviews places; so, it will be a week of eating ourselves into food comas almost everyday. Ya’ll should check out her Google page. She has had over 110 million views of her pictures.

We could go to J. Christopher’s, Waffle House, or Highland Bakery for breakfast. Copeland’s for brunch, The Vortex, Big Pie in the sky, Six feet Under, Tacos and Tequila, or Chuy’s, for lunch and Maggiano’s, Red & Green, Fogo, Passadors, D92, Thrill, The Orient Express, Tokyo Hibachi, for dinner. Cirque Atlanta, The Cheesecake Factory, Sugar Factory, and Krispy Kremes, and Nothing Bundt Cakes in Tucker for dessert. Dugans for drinks and wings and who can forget The Varsity, or the Food Truck Park.

We may stop at the Coke Pavilion, Little 5 Points, Ponce city market, Centennial Park, Andretti, Atlanta Zoo, what used to be Underground, 5pts, and the Mercedes Stadium.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Mr. G of Mr. G’s Mobile Grooming. He has a heart and passion for the elderly, which makes him unique. He travels to them to make them look and feel good about themselves. Some are in wheelchairs, while others may not be ambulatory and bedridden. He talks to them, jokes with them, shaves ears and noses, as well as their heads, and makes them look like they did when they were younger. He doesn’t discriminate. He also does men, women, and teens, but his true calling is for those who cannot help themselves. Email him for appointments at: mrgmobilegrooming@gmail.com.
