We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Darby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chloe, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Growing up in Chicago taught me the importance of giving back to the community, and that’s something I carry with me to this day. I always say, “If I have the skills to help, why not use them to make a difference?” That’s why I make it a priority to volunteer my time and talents at local churches.

Not only do I help with various activities, but I also offer free designs to help them get their message out to as many people as possible. Whether it’s creating flyers for events, social media graphics, or sermon series visuals, I love knowing that my work can amplify their reach and impact.

For me, it’s about more than just design—it’s about ministry. Every project I take on for these churches is a way for me to serve, to give back, and to help spread positivity in my community. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do, and it reminds me why I started Chloe Graphic Designs in the first place: to tell stories that matter and to use creativity as a force for good.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story! My journey in graphic design started when I was just 11 years old. My father needed a flyer, but his graphic designer was out of town. He looked at me and said, “Chloe, you’re always on that phone—make me a flyer.” I had no idea what I was doing, but after five hours of experimenting, I created my very first flyer. That moment sparked a passion for design that has grown into a thriving business.

In the early days, I wasn’t shy about “borrowing” ideas from other designers to learn the craft. I’d call it “research,” but honestly, I was just figuring out how they did all the cool things I admired. I joke now, but I was really piecing together skills until I could make my own magic. That phase taught me the importance of learning from others while finding my own voice.

Today, I’m the proud founder and CEO of Chloe Graphic Designs, where I lead an incredible team of designers who share my vision for creating impactful and meaningful designs. Our work focuses on helping pastors, businesses, and organizations bring their stories to life in ways that inspire action and foster connection. We’ve had the privilege of designing for renowned clients such as 6-time Grammy Winner Jekalyn Carr, Prophet Brian Mosley, Gatling Chapel Funeral Home, and a host of churches, nonprofit organizations, and businesses striving to make a difference.

The journey hasn’t always been easy. Being young and a woman in a male-dominated field meant I often had to work harder to be taken seriously. Clients would underestimate my abilities or downplay my work, but I stayed focused and let the quality of my designs speak for themselves. Over time, I built a reputation for excellence, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering more than just visuals—I deliver stories.

What I want the world to know about me and Chloe Graphic Designs is that we’re about more than just creating beautiful designs. We’re about amplifying voices, telling stories, and making an impact. My story is proof that determination, passion, and a willingness to learn can take you far—whether you’re an 11-year-old making your first flyer or a leader inspiring a team to push creative boundaries. At Chloe Graphic Designs, we believe every design starts with a story, and we’re here to help you tell yours.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for just one day, I’d make sure it was packed with unforgettable experiences and amazing food!

We’d start the day by visiting downtown Chicago to explore Millennium Park and snap some photos by “The Bean.” From there, we’d stroll along the Chicago Riverwalk, taking in the beautiful views and energy of the city.

For lunch, we’d head to Jerk Villa for their mouthwatering jerk chicken, paired with their signature jerk sauce and a soft white bun—it’s the perfect blend of spice and flavor!

For dinner, we’d make our way to Wings Greens and Things at 6767 S South Chicago Ave. We’d dive into their incredible chicken wings, savor the yams and macaroni, and top it all off with their house sauce. To drink, we’d share their signature Gina Juice —sweet, refreshing, and the perfect finish to a delicious meal.

We’d wrap up the day with a visit to Navy Pier to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan, maybe ride the Ferris wheel as well as take a late night drive down lakeshore, and reflect on a day full of fun, flavor, and memories .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to two groups of people who have been instrumental in my journey: my best friend, Michael Gatlin, and my incredible clients.

Michael and I first connected when he led the media team I was a part of. What started as a professional relationship quickly grew into a strong and meaningful friendship. As a fellow graphic designer, Michael has been a constant source of inspiration and collaboration. We’ve worked on numerous projects together, and his leadership, creativity, and encouragement have significantly influenced my growth—both personally and professionally.

I also want to recognize my clients, who have trusted me to bring their visions to life. Their belief in my abilities and their willingness to collaborate have allowed me to grow my business and expand creatively. Each project I’ve worked on has taught me something new, and I’m deeply grateful for the relationships I’ve built with them along the way.

To Michael and my amazing clients—thank you for being a part of my story and for making this journey so rewarding.
