We had the good fortune of connecting with Chiquita Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chiquita, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First and foremost, I had no other choice than to create a legacy for my child. I also had no other choice other than to respond to the needs of children. I firmly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and I knew this is where I could do my part.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In 2020 I started a Health & Wellness product line for children that is based around essential oils. As a mother and a Licensed Mental Health Therapist, I’ve had a front row seat to issues our children suffer from. I have also had a front row seat to ineffective ways to handle these issues. This is the very reason I decided to begin researching alternative solutions and out of this Charmed Essentials By Chloe La’Sha was born.

Chloe La’Sha is not only part of our business name but she is my 5-year-old daughter and a big part of the motivation behind this company. When Chloe was born she suffered from an extreme case of eczema. After many doctors visits, creams, and steroids I decided we were done. I came across a hair care brand that focused on all natural products and was produced by a Mother whose daughter suffered from eczema. I then began to research essential oils and started developing blends a few years later. Today we are testing and preparing to launch our GoodNight Chloe and Soothe Me Chloe Blends. GoodNight Chloe is an essential oil blend that assists children produce healthier sleep hygiene. Our Soothe Me Chloe blend is for children who suffer from skin irritation such as eczema. Our blends are producing results that are minimizing the need to give our children powerful medications.

Since being on the journey of entrepreneurship I have learned so much about other people but also myself. I’ve learned more about who I am as a mother, a woman, and a provider of services. I didn’t come from a household of entrepreneurs so I am determined to not only empower our babies to handle their issues with more natural products but empower every person, especially those that look like me. I want us to trust that we can step out on faith. Believe in ourselves, bet on ourselves because no matter what you will produce a better self.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So this question is two fold for me because I am a former resident of Atlanta but now I live in Charlotte, NC. When I originally arrived in Atlanta I was a graduate student studying to become a Licensed Therapist and ready to have a good time! In those days, my friends and I would go to Perimeter or Cumberland Mall to grab our outfits for the night! We would eat at Ra Sushi or somewhere in Atlantic Station. Definitely would grab a sub from Woody’s Cheesesteaks at least every other week. One of the most exciting things to me about being in Atlanta was so much of the population looked like me. Everywhere you looked there was people of color eating together, partying together, celebrating together, and building wealth together. It was very much a promising environment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes out to several people. First and foremost my 5 year old mini me Chloe La’Sha. This little girl brings out a part of me that I can be proud of everyday! She is my reason for everything that I do and I am blessed to have such an anchor. Secondly, I want to shoutout every single young person that I have worked with in my career as a Mental Health Professional. I had the opportunity to work with these babies and be inspired to pour into their lives on a bigger scale. Thank you!
