We had the good fortune of connecting with Chinemerem Omeh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chinemerem, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art is the only thing I’ve known and am good at. I’d say it’s a calling. It sounds like a cliche but it’s a passion. I love doing it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art borders on my childhood educational inadequacy and how I’ve relived those memories by channeling my unresolved emotions into my paintings using the vegetation and the cracked ground of my native environment as part of my imageries, which in turn, birthed my painting style.

The stories I tell. My ability to tell it consistently through my work stands me out from my peers. My technique and the variety of media employed in executing my works.

What I’ve achieved so far with my body of work and the future ideas to come. Overcoming psychological challenges while growing up. The views by people that I wasn’t good enough, made me feel lesser but it never stopped me from moving forward.

Staying true to who I am and what I always wanted, regardless of whatever or whoever. Of course, that wasn’t easy in an environment that imposes its ideologies on you but with consistency, hard work, and a deep-rooted feeling to be known, I came out better.

With my childhood experience, I’ve come to believe, that children are beings to be unfolded rather than beings to be molded.

I would love to be associated with resilience and persistence, and as a man, who spoke his truth. We are all special with our unique identities. I would love my paintings to be vessels to be tapped into and resonate with not just children but adults.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t had time to explore the city. I’m new here, in Atlanta. But if I had friends visiting, I’d take them to Callaway garden. Have breakfast, at First watch, visit 6flags over Georgia. At night, we’d go see a movie at the Drive-in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I want to give a big shoutout to my sister, Ifeoma Omeh, I would not be who I am today without her support. I would also like to give another shoutout to my family for their undying love and encouragement, they have been nothing short of amazing in my journey.

Another shoutout goes to my aunty, Ifeyinwa Mamah, who has provided a lot of support and solutions in difficult times on several occasions.

Lastly, I want to give a shoutout to art critics, colleagues, my teachers, and two very special friends, Franklin Akwuruoha and Macdonald Iheme, whom in their unique way have contributed to my progress and growth over the years, pushing me to unlock my full potential to becoming a better artist.
