We had the good fortune of connecting with Chiana Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chiana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To begin dissecting this question, I must first quote from my spiritual realm 2 Timothy 1:7 ” For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

With that being said, everyday I rise I choose the option of taking the risk to continually grow and develop myself, first. Risk is a necessary aspect of life to fully live in purpose. Taking the leap of faith in entrepreneurship has been a tremendous undertaking because of the countless amount of uncertainties involved with starting from the ground up. When I decided to fully commit to this journey, I began “losing” essentially everything that was attached to my comfort zone. Don’t get me wrong, the first 90 days was one of the most challenging times of my adult life. The beginning of my entrepreneurship journey caused me to question everything from self-worth to my faith in God, shedding many tears of pleas to send an immediate resolve to my situation.

Fast-forwarding to today, I will say that taking this risk, in particular, has strengthened my ability to believing in myself wholeheartedly. When I approach a decision that must be made, it is ultimately a risk and being committed to the outcome relies solely on my intuition that I am doing the best that I can with the resources I have readily available to the choices at hand. Being a risk taker is embedded in my DNA. Being a risk taker allows me to independently think, speak, and act for myself with confidence.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
House of Belle is a virgin hair company and upcoming natural hair salon that focuses on empowering confidence beginning with the crown. Our thoughts shape our reality, so our number one goal is to get it right the first time. Hair care is self care and when you look good you feel good and when you feel good the world is your oyster.

I am excited for the ground breaking of what will become a boutique-like salon and virgin hair shopping experience with retail shops in smaller communities. With these boutiques, the goal is to revitalize traditional salon experiences with a focal point of community and conversation. Churches, barbershops, and hair salons have always been a pillar in the African American community and more than ever we need these types of businesses back into what is left of communities.

Where we are today has been a tremendous challenge, however, adversity only builds character. I have learned that consistency builds momentum and that baby steps is still movement. Keep going is the only option.

To the world, House of Belle is a vision that God would not let die and I have surrendered my own fears to His will!
