We had the good fortune of connecting with Chi Chi Dior and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chi Chi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting A Touch of Chi Chi was basically being able to do something simple yet powerful enough to reach people and educate them while improving their skin at the same time.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being someone who hardly knew ANYTHING about entrepreneurship or businesses, when I decided I wanted to quit my job, it definitely was a leap of faith! I started brainstorming on A Touch of Chi Chi mid 2019 and although I actually started out making T-Shirts, I didn’t begin creating natural skincare products until early 2020 (pre pandemic) after quitting my office job of 2 years. Even though it was probably one of the best jobs I’ve ever had, I knew in my spirit that I needed something that fit my lifestyle a little better. Not to mention I needed and wanted to be at home with my children more.
One day I was randomly reading the back of a body wash bottle and I had waaaay too much trouble understanding & pronouncing certain ingredients so I thought… “Well if I’m having an issue… I’m pretty sure other people might be too” so I started researching DIY skincare products and different ingredients to use for the skin and it was a wrap after that! I turned the living room into my office/workspace (still is) and got to work. I created my logo myself, I made my labels myself, I watched countless videos on YouTube over & over again and continuously pulled all-nighters because I was not only intrigued by my own creativity, I am determined to make a difference! I love learning about my history so I decided to incorporate that into my products because there’s so much information out there that we have not been receiving. I like to help people so if I can help you learn something that you didn’t know before, I’m good with that!
Entrepreneurship is definitely challenging and it can definitely get discouraging! The lack of support being the biggest challenge I’ve faced thus far. People I’ve known for years have YET to even share a post of mine yet alone buy anything! It took me a while to comprehend that not everyone is going to support you and that’s okay.
I’m currently in the process of revamping my brand because sometimes you really have to step back and reanalyze some things. Including your mental health lol… but the main thing is to get back out there and keep going!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve grown into such an introvert I have no idea what’s what anymore lol! Depending on what’s going on while they were here, we would hit up a few pop up shops and festivals. I’d want to support as many black owned businesses as we could! I know one day we would have brunch at Escobar on Peter St. or slide by Atlanta Breakfast Club. We’re going to either Pamper ATL or JeJu for our nail & spa date. We’d be at the Ponce City Market for lunch at Bar Vegan. I’m always down for some live music and good vibes in the park so I’m sure we’d be downtown alot! We’re definitely going to Amicalola Falls or Tallulah Gorge for the hiking and waterfalls! I’d also plan to or poetry/spoken word at a nice cafe followed by dinner at Slim & Husky’s because pizza is always on the menu!?! I’m also going to check out the Crystal Loft in Johns Creek because I heard it was such a VIBE!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m dedicating this shoutout to my creator… my ancestors… and everyone who supports & believes in me wholeheartedly!
