We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherokee Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cherokee, what principle do you value most?
Obtaining true happiness in my self and whatever I choose to do in life is what I value the most right now. I grew up doing what others wanted, opposed to my true self, to make them happy. Thankfully I learned early that I can’t make others happy, only myself.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I was an student athlete over half my life. (From ages 10-22) That took up a lot of time. Time I didn’t have to really figure out what I like/love to do. So when that part of my life ended I had to figure out what was next. But what was next was something I had all ready been doing naturally. Since maybe 3 years old I’ve loved hair, makeup, film, tv, drawing anything artistic. So I figured I should do what childhood me wanted to do.
I’ve had a few mental hurdles to jump as far as believing I could actually do this. This wasn’t the path anybody, including myself, thought I’d be going down. I cared a lot about how other thought about me and my life choices. I have two degrees both of which have nothing to do with the beauty industry. So everything I’ve learned has been on my own. Sometimes I feel like I’m way behind other people my age in this field that’s been doing this for years now. I also still work a full time job while trying to group my business and that can get exhausting as well. I’ve overcome these things with a lot of self work and understanding that all things considered I’m not as behind as I think and I haven’t had as many hurdles as other.
Starting Cherokee Rose Beauty and doing hair and makeup professional is something I’m extremely new to. At 25 I’m in my infant stages and I have a lot to learn. But because I love doing it the long growth process is something I’m excited about and look forward to.
The brand I want Cherokee Rose Beauty to be is one of natural beauty enhancement. I want to be able to transform people but in the most natural way possible. I want people to still look and feel like them selves, just an enhanced version. I also what to be apart of creating art. Editorial work is something I want to do a lot of.
I honestly don’t think I’ve done anything worth being shouted out for but it’s an opportunity and a confidence boost I’ll gladly take
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Ponce City Market and the belt line to walk around eat and get some King Pops. We’d hit Edgewood one night to bar hop and get pizza at Edgewood Pizzeria. Go skating at Golden Glide or Cascade. I’d take them to Roswell Mill park or Sweetwater Park to see the water falls. For sure fine random restaurants to go eat at.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my dad. While I have support and encouragement from both parents and my best friends, he speaks so much life into my entrepreneurial dreams and gives me a lot motivation when it comes to that pursuit. Him being a entrepreneur basically my whole life, he understands all sides of it and I truly value what he tells me.
