We had the good fortune of connecting with Chemi Choates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chemi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I have always been an artistic person. I started making jewelry in 2014. I seen some custom work from a European designer. I really liked the tutorial so I creating bracelets. I used different types of beads and gems-more of the Shambala style. I took my exploration a bit further and created necklaces which led to rosaries and sports fanware.

Then I fell in love with European charms which are the big hole charms. They come in a variety of forms, glass, silver, gold etc. I seen that I could get the same charms at a cheaper price and that made me excited, from there I birthed Bél Charms. Bél is French for beautiful which is a play on my name which is also French. Finally, I have found my own vendor which I will introduce my new collection in 2022. My collection will include signature items like charms, stoppers and themed full bracelets. I create bracelets for babies and teens also.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is different because my jewels are affordable for everyone. You can be more hands on with what you actually want and it won’t be someone else with the exact same jewels you have. I want people to know that my brand is for the everyday person. You don’t have to be a celebrity to feel like a celebrity when you wear my jewels. My motto is Be Bold, Be Beautiful, Be Uniquely You!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Staying in Atlanta is always an adventure. You can start your breakfast at thumbs up then go to High Museum of Art. You can go and have brunch somewhere like the Suite Food lounge or a list or numerous of places that’s on the belt line. By time nighttime falls, you have a slew of lounges and after hour spots that you can visit in the city. You can party as far as Gwinnett County all the way down to Clayton County.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had great support from my family. They have encouraged me so many times to keep focused and stay consistent. They have purchased so many different types of jewelry from me over the years. Without them I wouldn’t be able to show others what I could do. They allow me to have complete creative control and I have not missed a mark yet. Seeing their eyes light up is what what keeps me going.
