We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea; Tevin Burke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea; Tevin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Kountry Kravings is truly a family business built on faith, passion, and purpose. Husband and wife, Tevin and Chelsea Burke always knew we wanted to be entrepreneurs. Tevin is a jack-of-all-trades; however, cooking has always come naturally to him. One day he prepared a meal for TechOps staff at Delta Airlines and the feedback was incredible. That moment sparked something in us. At first, we dreamed of “Big Burkes BBQ,” but we knew his talent and our vision, could be even bigger.
The real turning point came after we had our second child. We were on paternity leave, and like many families, we weren’t getting paid during that time, but the bills didn’t stop. We were in a season where we needed to make something shake. That pressure, that vulnerability, became our push. Instead of letting the moment break us, we used it as fuel.
So, while on leave, we got to work. Chelsea came up with the name Kountry Kravings, created our business model, and together we completed all of the licensing and certifications we needed.
From there, everything took off faster than we imagined. We’ve cooked for intimate gatherings of five and large events serving over 300 guests. We’ve been food vendors at community festivals, provided private dining experiences, and delivered full-service catering for social gatherings and corporate events.
None of this would be possible without our phenomenal team and the support we’ve received along the way.
We credit every opportunity to God. The way doors have opened for us and the growth we’ve experienced… it’s bigger than us. Kountry Kravings isn’t just a business; it’s a blessing and a passion that we’re honored to share with others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kountry Kravings is more than catering, it’s an experience. When people hire us, they’re not just getting food; they’re getting excellence, hospitality, and a team that genuinely cares about every detail. We specialize in high-quality southern-inspired cuisine, with food that is flavorful, thoughtfully prepared, and rooted in tradition.
Quality is at the core of who we are. We use prime cuts of meat, fresh and organic ingredients, farm-to-table produce, and pasture-raised eggs and butter. Early on, someone told us that we’d eventually learn to cut corners and switch to cheaper ingredients. But we never have. The integrity of our food matters too much. Our clients taste the difference.
We’re known for our smoked brisket and ribs (that don’t need a drop of sauce), our smoked wings, brisket and salmon tacos, smoked macaroni and cheese, and our signature brisket baked beans. These dishes have become client favorites because they’re made with technique and passion.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to impeccable customer service. From the very first conversation, we listen to what the client wants, understand their vision, and communicate with professionalism and warmth every step of the way. On event day, we go above and beyond, not just serving as caterers, but often stepping in as wait staff, helping guests, replenishing stations, and ensuring the entire experience is seamless. Many clients don’t realize how much extra care they’re receiving until they see it unfold, and they’re always blown away.
Our team treats every client and every guest with respect and hospitality. We make sure our staff is aligned, trained, and able to provide that elevated level of service that we’re known for. It’s that consistency in food and in service that keeps our clients coming back.
What we’re most proud of, brand-wise, is that we built this business from the ground up with no roadmap. No mentors, no blueprint. Just faith, research, trial and error, and a shared determination. We learned, we adjusted, we grew, and we did it together.
At the heart of Kountry Kravings is a simple truth, we love what we do, and we want every client to feel that love in every bite and every interaction.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If our best friend were visiting Atlanta for a week, we would make sure they experienced the perfect mix of good food, good vibes, and memorable moments. Atlanta has so much to offer, and we’d start by taking them to our favorite spots, the ones that never miss.
Food would definitely be at the center of the trip. We’d kick things off with brunch at Toast on Lenox, one of our go-to places for great food and an even better atmosphere. And for a more elevated, trendy experience, we’d head to Paper Plane, they always deliver creative cocktails, whiskey flights and a cool, intimate vibe.
We’d also do a wine tour throughout the city, exploring local wine bars, tasting rooms, and hidden gems that showcase some of Atlanta’s best pours. Atlanta has a growing wine culture, and it’s the perfect way to unwind, laugh, and have great conversation.
Because we’re a food-loving family, we’d also sign up for a hands-on cooking class. Something fun, interactive, and full of personality, the kind of experience where you walk away with new skills and even better memories.
For entertainment, we’d make time for a concert, because there’s always someone amazing performing in Atlanta. Whether it’s a big arena show or an intimate house venue, live music is part of the city’s heartbeat.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would have to dedicate our shoutout to God. He gave us the vision, the push, and the opportunities. Every door that opened, every lesson we learned, every moment where things came together right on time, that was God. Without His covering and direction, Kountry Kravings wouldn’t exist in the way it does today.
From there, we also have to shout out ourselves. We started this business from absolutely nothing. No blueprint, no mentorship, no funding, and no one handing us a path forward. Just faith, a newborn and toddler, bills to pay, and two people determined to turn a dream into reality. We researched, we made mistakes, we figured things out one step at a time, and we kept going even when the process felt overwhelming.
We showed up on days where we were exhausted, unsure, or stretched thin. We believed in our brand before anyone else knew its name. We invested in quality, upheld integrity, and built a reputation based on excellence, long before we had the infrastructure, the staff, or the systems we have today. So yes, we give ourselves credit for the resilience, sacrifice, and consistent hard work that got us here.
And we cannot forget our staff. They treat our business like their own. They eagerly show up, they go the extra mile for our clients, and they carry the same pride and professionalism that we pour into this brand. Their dedication is a blessing, and we truly wouldn’t be where we are today without them.
So our shoutout goes to God, to us, and to the incredible team that stands beside us. Kountry Kravings is the product of faith, grit, partnership, and a whole lot of love.
