Meet Chelsea Guevara | Entrepreneur // Cookie Dealer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Guevara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process, was survival. I was in the process of finding myself , becoming a better person, overcoming alcohol and drug addiction and being a young single mom. I struggled for most of my teenage years and into my early twenties, really struggled. Rarely had a job for any extended amount of time, no car, no savings, no bank account, couldn’t pay for my own phone bill, didn’t graduate , and had a baby alone in the world. About 2 years into this new me I was attempting to create, I found the art of cookie decorating. It just fell into my lap, like here I am this secret skill you’ve had all this time and never even knew. I was amazed at how quickly I I learned and I was good at it too. I thought wow, im actually getting some great feedback from people and I wasn’t even taking it seriously yet.
And it hit me, that this was what I have been waiting for…. A form of work that I could do myself , without needing transport, or a babysitter or a lot of money and I didnt need help from anyone to make cookies. The most important thing, not needing anyone too succeed. My mission overnight became to become successful at this, to grow it into a business and be able to support myself and my daughter.
That year I opened my Etsy first, and it blew up and I became one of the top sellers on their platform, created my LLC, and from there I just haven’t stopped. I continue to strive and work everyday to be the best and most successful cookie dealer I can be. To grow something that I can be proud of and say, Hey I did this!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting here today, was not easy. However, I wouldn’t have changed the road I took. My work ethic, my drive to succeed, my pride in the content I put out, the amount of sacrifice I am willing to make in order to be successful is what got me here. I would of never in a million years seen myself doing what I do now, I didn’t dream about this my whole life, I didn’t attend culinary school , there was no “plan”. I was struggling to get my life together in every way imaginable, and I was in such a bad place in life, with literally nothing… I was searching for something to give me excitement, happiness, creativity , I needed an outlet, and cookies found me really and it changed my life. It sounds so silly but its true, I didnt have anything in my life to focus on for myself until I found this craft.
When I realized I could change , and do something positive, do something productive with myself, make something of MYSELF, on my own, without needing help from anyone it was over with. Thats all I needed to see was my own potential.
I have grown myself from nothing, Into a successful entrepreneur and successful business owner in a couple years.
It is truly incredible when look back, and my main purpose for sharing is to show other people, especially other women that your success is not put on anyone else. Nobody will succeed FOR YOU, nobody is going to stay up late nights and work all day, nobody is going to sacrifice their time for you nobody will work as hard as you will, for you. You have to make the changes, take the steps, make the leaps, have the faith and determination, and work your ass off. Even when it feels impossible and unattainable.
You can do anything.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For me -New York City is my happy place, there is nowhere more interesting, entertaining, lovely and exciting. Staying in the city is the best time, if you don’t live in the city it makes you feel like youre in a totally different country. All the different people, sight seeings, you cannot be bored in New York. You can also go out all hours of the night and you’ll for sure find something to do. We would stay in Manhattan, visit all the fun places but take her to the small and less touristy spots where my family is from, where the lived, all the fresh markets… I love the entire city , for everything that it is and sharing that with people is something so beautiful that I hope everyone could experience it one time. There is nowhere else like it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to my Aunt Bonnie, without her love and support and mentorship I wouldn’t have ever made it where I am.
