We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Tank Land and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef Tank, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Stepping out on faith and confidence that I had the tools and the endurance to make the transition from Louisiana to Georgia by myself. Trying to thrive in a new environment and way of people is always a learning experience I feels like it shows us what’s in us.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love morning more than creating memories and experiences for anyone I cook for. I will fully think out and create a dish to either tell a story or to show case the complexity of the dish. While explaining the dish I’ll throw in some history or thought process of the creation doing my best to leave the most impressionable feelings to accomplish even if the guest or client doesn’t remember me they will remember the dish. My aim for most of my dishes and classes are to create that lasting memory that people constantly speak or recall on , coupled with my personality and how I bring jokes and that southern hospitality feeling from my demeanor, I in return become the brand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop is walking along the belt line enjoying the sights then get to downtown Atlanta park to gusto for a quick bite, and even my evening across town at Cheba hut for the night. Other days is the sights the coke factory or aquarium, or even the underground or Moore house college tour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been countless people in my life that have pushed me to the place I am today, My Little Lady and family for instance. Though also my culinary Instructors and fellow Chefs from the industry that have been sharpening mutually along side me. So to those whom stood behind me during this journey of my life I thank them with the utmost gratitude and respect for. Donnel Grace, and Kevin Wedderburn are two fellow chefs and musician who I could throw my shoutout to, as a brother and a great friend I wish them as equally great prosperity and success.
