We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Bri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“I am booked, I am busy, I am in demand, I am doing everything according to the plan. I trust myself, I trust the universe, I’m putting myself and my dreams first.” I heard this affirmation one day scrolling on TikTok and listened to it constantly until I had it memorized. Now, I say it at least 3 times every single day, along with a few other powerful phrases. Over the years, I’ve learned how powerful the mind is. To think it is to believe it, to believe it is to achieve it. I am manifesting the life I want for myself, so this phrase helps me start every day on a positive & successful note.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When you look at a gorgeous cake, a lot of the times it doesn’t taste as good as it looks, and I think that’s very disappointing. I spent years working on my recipes to make sure they’re flavorful and not overly sweet. I wanted to make sure they tasted good so that people would actually want to eat the cake! Once I had my recipes down, then I started focusing on fine tuning my decorating. It has been more trial and error than anything else. It’s been late nights, breakdowns, failures, and disappointment. It’s also been a journey filled with pride, creative freedom, new ideas, learning new techniques, and paving my own path. There’s hundreds, if not thousands, of bakers in the Atlanta metro area, and we all do our own thing and have our story, so I can’t speak on what exactly makes me different from others, because deep down, we’re all more similar than we care to admit. But I can say, that where I’m at right now did not come without actual blood, sweat, and tears. My only competition is myself. I have to keep trying to be better than I was last week, month, and year. As long as I can see my improvements day by day, I can be happy with where I’m at. I’m currently focused mainly on dessert buffets, wedding cakes, and sculpted or hyper realistic cakes. Those 3 things are quickly becoming favorites of mine, because I feel they allow me the most amount of creativity! Also, I absolutely love when people come to me with the strangest ideas and want them into edible art. For example, a little boy wanted a poison ivy cake, the plant not the character, and I was able to try a new technique while making it. There was no reference photos or anything online so I was able to just go into my imagination, and it’s really awesome to do something that hasn’t been done before or isn’t as popular!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We recently went to the Cherokee Aquatic Center, and we had such a good time there! So if it’s summertime and hot out, we would definitely go there. Well probably stroll around the Battery in Smyrna and hit a few tourist spots, like the aquarium. I’d also love to take them to a few really good food spots. To name a few : Corazon Mexicano Cantina in Marietta is probably my favorite go to Mexican food spot.
Peace Love Pizza is my go to pizza spot.
WEI Sichuan is my go to Chinese spot.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband’s unwavering support for my business has truly helped me get to where I am. He thinks of these absolutely ridiculous ideas that I would never consider, and that pushes me to think outside of the box. Anytime I doubt myself, he’s right there hyping me up telling me I can absolutely do it. It’s the unconditional love and support that helps me get by every single day.
