We had the good fortune of connecting with Chaz-Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chaz-Anthony, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My reputation of quality has been the most important factor behind my success. I have maintained a reputation for producing quality results in everything I do since highschool. From party promotion, artist management, and even my experience obtaining a J.D; I’ve been known to do a lot of things and do them pretty well. This translated well when I dropped my clothing line; people were willing and ready to support my brand before even seeing physical designs. It came with a little bit of pressure but I knew I had to come with pieces they would love. I’ve been really blessed to have developed a loyal support system over the years and this has been a huge factor in helping my brand expand at the rate it has.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
DONTLETMOMFINDOUT is a fashion brand based out of Memphis, TN. The name of the brand came from my finsta account where I showed my real life. The reason I had a finsta is because I felt as if I couldn’t be my authentic self on my personal account while being a law student; I didn’t look or live a life similar to my law schools peers. Even down to my clothing choices, when my classmates came to class in formal wear I was always the one in fresh sneaks and joggers. People would second guess if I were actually a law student and it made me realize how strong stereotypes are in every aspect of life. I am a strong believer in the the idea of “your clothing does not define you or your competence. I wanted to create a brand that stood for just that. I’ve always been against the grain so I created a brand that was just that, “against the grain”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Pre-pandemic. I would’ve taken them to Chings Wings to get some of the best wings in the city. Im a big fan of cigars so I would have to make a pit stop by Havana Mix Cigar Lounge in downtown Memphis. However, you can’t leave the city without getting some of that good BBQ. My favorite BBQ spot is TOPS BBQ on Lamar. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Imaan Esse, owner of Beauty of the Horn. Imaan played a huge role in my decision to chase my dreams as a designer. She challenged me to go against the grain regardless of what others thought I should do. When everyone else wanted me to follow a more structured career path, she gave me the confidence me to remain unorthodox and to live by my own rules. But, I also want to give a shout out to those who have supported me from the very beginning.
