We had the good fortune of connecting with Chavez Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chavez, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was simple, how could I expand my clientele from just people that I know to working with actually major companies? After I challenged myself with this idea it only made sense to start a production company. Not just one that caters to the needs of artist in the music industry, but one that also caters to the needs of people in other industries who would need music or sound done for their product or service. My love for just creating music pushed me into this direction also. I realized that music was everywhere, literally everywhere and everything requires music whether we noticed it or not. I wanted to be apart of that “everywhere and everything” market.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The art that I create is a total reflection of my childhood and the experiences I was afforded to have growing up and throughout my adult life. My parents love music and they did it just for fun. What was a hobby for them became a passion of mine. Because I was surrounded by good music all the time I had no choice but to want to experiment with this music thing also. From listening to Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole throughout the week, to Bob Marley and the Wailers every Sunday does have a strong impact on a 11 yr old boy. I fell in love with the classics and what they meant to people who grew up in those eras. Yes I was also up to date with all of the late 90’s and early 2000’s music but I also had a connection to the music of the past. In addition to this, I have a fascination with nature and traveling and before I was able to take trips of my own, documentaries and other tv shows did the traveling for me. With me experiencing all of this in my childhood I think this adds to my unique of something that just can’t be labeled at the moment. I believe my love for music and love for people actually loving music transcends into my production and that truly sets me apart from others. When I create, it’s for me first and then the listeners second, to love and appreciate the audible art.
I am most proud about the journey I am experiencing currently. Plenty ups and downs but I am quite aware that is the prerequisites for true success.
I got to where I am to professionally by just trusting God and not being afraid of rejection. As an artist, you will be rejected. That’s just the nature of it but because I was able to remove the fear factor from it, I believe that has propelled me to the space that I am currently in and I am only looking forward to greater and bigger things! There were challenges along the way of course, and I will continue to expect them but again I am aware that it is just apart of the process so I may be thrown off for a day or two but its right back on the grind from there.
One of the major lessons I’ve learned along the way is persistence and patience. These two go hand in hand because if you don’t persist you’ll give up and if you don’t have patience you can overshot your opportunity. It’s really all about finding that balance between the two. Knowing when to wait and knowing that while you wait you must keep the ball rolling.
In conclusion, I’d want the world to know that I intend on bringing back some of the core values and appreciate for the arts but music specifically. Because I had years of learning great music and playing alongside amazing musicians as well as being able to travel around the world I think there’s no better way to do this than by sharing who I truly and and my experiences with everyone through music. A lot of it will be instrumental based, so find a chill evening and grab a glass of wine or something before taking in what I have to share with you all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week long itinerary for a friend here in ATL would look something like this.
Food:
– Conch Heaven Doraville. Probably one of the best take out spots here in ATL. They serve Bahamian food which I think is top tier. Every one must try some good authentic Bahamian food.
– Miss Gogi Korean BBQ. This place is a must! I’ll leave it right there.
– Krab Queens. This spot is an experience! I think you may have to set aside a few hours to really enjoy your time here but the food is great!
– Yakitori Jinbei. One of the top ramen spots here in ATL for sure. There’s a lot of other items on their menu but the food is great.
– Establishment. This spot always has great energy and great food. You’ve got to go just to see what I’m talking about.
Attractions:
– Georgia Aquarium
– World of Coca Cola
– Ponce City Market
– Botanical Gardens
– Toccoa Falls
Hang outs:
– Barcelona Wine Bar. This is a cool place to hang out too. You can grab some some plates called TAPAS and the wine there is pretty great too. Perfect for just a day time or evening chill spot to vibe.
– Ponce City Market. There’s just so much to do here, I think its great for a Saturday or Sunday “Day” vibe.
Drinks:
– Establishment. Pretty extensive drink menu and everything is great.
– Cafe Intermezzo
– The Social The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, my family and close friends deserve all of the credit and recognition for what I was able to achieve so far. They all know that I have crazy ideas and dreams of becoming the next Quincy Jones and they fully support that. Nothing means more to me than knowing that someone truly believes in me and what I am trying to accomplish and they all have extended that level of support and true belief in me.
