We had the good fortune of connecting with Chavala Potts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chavala, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk over regret. This mantra is actually how I was able to begin my business. I had already finished Beauty school to become a licensed esthetician and I knew I wanted to start a business. I wasn’t sure how to fund it. I happened to receive a call from a former coworker friend about a business opportunity. I knew I had been praying and manifesting so I figured it was a sign. I jumped on a zoom call for Tava Lifestyle, took a risk and joined the company. I grew that business & then began to fund my own beauty spa room, Self Centered Spa and Beauty Services. That has since grown into me starting my own LLC which is Allthingsvala LLC. I’m have not stopped taking risks since I took that first risk. I can honestly say I would have regretted not taking that risk because it changed my life. Now I am in flow and my business just keeps growing. I’m grateful! Since then risk taking has actually been a source of my gratitude! I cash in on me everyday and I haven’t lost yet…. I don’t think I can!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is my testimony to myself. The sole focus of my business is about self acceptance, self love and self care. I chose the name Self Centered Spa and Beauty Services because I wanted to change the narrative of what it means to be self centered. I am a firm believer that you can’t “pour from an empty cup”. We must be self centered in order to give to others and it’s okay! To me it’s not just another “spa day” it’s self care! Self care is a form of self love which is an essential component to a healthy life. We’re often made to feel guilty for doing something for ourselves and it shouldn’t be that way! Self care is different for each person and that should be normalized. My products and services center around self care. All of my facials are customized or as I like to call it “selfish style”. Each “selfish session” is personal and I provide every selfish squad member (my clients) with effective skin treatments & skincare knowledge. Every time I grow in an area I find a way to implement it into my business. I’m very conscious of what business opportunities I take on. Natural products that are good for the mind, body, and soul are key in my lifestyle & when choosing what to offer my clientele. I always try to remain authentic to myself and who I am. I’m not putting my name on anything that I wouldn’t use. I use my Tava Lifestyle products and they’re amazing, so I sale them to my customers as well. I turned being my best me into a business. I’m a multifaceted person and I have so many things I want to do. My projection for this year includes offering more skincare treatments and natural health & beauty products, as well as growing in the blogging and content creating industry, and offering travel spa sessions. What I’ve learned is that if I put myself first everything else will fall into place. I approach my business the same way. Allthingsvala LLC is growing for that reason.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love food and so do my friends. More than likely we would have brunch or breakfast. I like Thumbs Up diner or Joy Cafe. We would probably go work out at the gym or go for a walk in Grant park. Maybe shop a bit because I love boutiques or hit a sip n paint. I’m also into poetry & open mic nights. I love the city because there’s always something to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend Makesha Thomas is who started me in the Tava business. I appreciate her for thinking of me when she was presented with that business opportunity. I’m also eternally grateful for the love and support of my family, especially my mother & sister. I am fortunate to have a supportive village of friends and family around me. I couldn’t do it without them.
