We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Mays and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chase, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There were many factors that fueled my decision to create our business. I wanted to embrace more of my culture and I wanted to share that prestige. Expression can be shown in a variety of different ways – and my thought was, what is understood does not have to be said.

I wanted to create something that was for us by us, which bred 2BlkWomen Apparel.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My field is in Education. I have had the pleasure of working with children for the past 15 years. I have worked in every educational setting that you can think of and when you think you’ve learned it all, you get a curve ball that humbles you.

I am most proud of the impact that I have had on my students and athletes whether it was in the classroom or on the court. The learning phases, the BIG test, the winning shot, the PROMposal, graduation and post graduation all bring different facets of amazement and I’m honored to bear witness to some of the most amazing moments with children and young adults.

Challenges are apart of life and I accept them as such – a moment in time that proved difficult. Once I learn the lesson, life is short so I will not be repeating that lesson!

Lessons I have learned along the way are as follows.

– Time is money
– Practice makes perfect
– Believing in yourself and your craft is the FIRST step
– WINS should be celebrated no matter how small
– LIFE moves, so should you.

I want the world to know that I came and I conquered. I want to leave my stamp on the world knowing that my impact on my culture was heard and it educated some, shifted opinions and challenged status quo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This ride has been by far my favorite in life. I’ve enjoyed the journey that the business brings. It has made me make decisions in life that I didn’t always feel confident in making. I have grown to appreciate every nook and cranny of being an entrepreneur. Though my wins are celebrated in silence, a win will always be a win.

Firstly, I would like to mostly shout out my wife, Tasheira. She is my CFO and right hand to everything. She keeps us in the green and ensures that our business is ran smoothly. We are always ahead of the curve and in good standing because of her expertise, research and above all her patience.

Secondly, I would like to shout out my parents for providing a platform that I can learn, observe and implement.
