We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chase, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process for starting my own media business was since no one was giving me an opportunity, I needed to create my own opportunities. I graduated from The University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Mass Communication, but I never felt like I fully got into my career field. I knew I had to create my own way. I began showing up to events and blessing the person having the event with re-cap videos of their event. I wrote my own books and filmed book trailers for my books. I began reaching out to Barnes and Noble and various libraries so I can have my own book signings. I joined a business organization called Recession Proof and began learning the business of marketing and media. I knew in order to get where I wanted to be, I couldn’t be passive. I had to go out there and make it happen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
No, it has not been a smooth road. One thing that I struggled with was trying to understand why no one would show the process and business of entertainment. I remember interning for a record label in 2006. I was so excited for the opportunity and eager to learn as much as I could. At the time, since I enjoyed writing stories, my plan was to become a songwriter. I would drive from Newnan to downtown Atlanta to answer the phones and open the door, but I wanted to learn more than that. It felt as if no one cared about what I could bring to the table and they just ignored my capabilities.

After doing that for months, I eventually left and realized that if I was going to make something happen, I needed to do it myself. I wasn’t going to get anywhere by being passive if I wanted to achieve at the highest level. I began studying business, contracts, film, editing, digital marketing and started networking at entertainment events in Atlanta.

Jackson GEN Media Group is a multi-media marketing agency that helps businesses with their advertisement through film, photography and publishing. Although we have an in house team, we partner with photographers and videographers around the Atlanta area according to our client’s needs. We also have a partnership with C & C Film Studio.

What sets us apart from other companies is our full-service capabilities. If a client has a book that needs to be published, we will work with them on a retainer from the beginning to the end of their process. We help with the book covers, editing, distribution, marketing, book signings, photoshoots, events, and speaking engagements. Our marketing team is one thing that I’m most proud of with my brand. We understand the importance of marketing a client once their product is done. When I was signed to a publishing company, marketing wasn’t at the top of their list for the author. It was left up to the author to do their own marketing. Advertisement is just as important to a brand as the book itself and we pride ourselves on helping our clients with marketing campaigns.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting in the area, I would show them the town of Trilith. It’s a community right across from Trilith Studios in Fayetteville where they film all of the Marvel movies. Right now, it’s like a small Atlantic Station but it’s growing. Amici is a great place to eat. Dani is my favorite bartender there. Also, Hanna Brothers which is right across the street has excellent food. There are places to shop and they also have live events throughout the month.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out the Atlanta chapter of Recession Proof. Marcus Barney created community for entrepreneurs to help, celebrate, and build each other up. Recession Proof has teamed up with Earn Your Leisure and created an even bigger community of entrepreneurs throughout the United States.
