We had the good fortune of connecting with Charmaine McCall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charmaine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind Creative Learning is all about passion produced purpose. When we first relocated to Valdosta I begin a tutoring program for elementary aged students. One of the biggest take aways in my program was that most of my students were struggling with the foundational skills needed to be successful in literacy and phonics. This pushed me further into my passion because it allowed me to create a program focused on early childhood literacy, through much prayer, and conversations with my family we established Creative Learning Preschool, a PreK/Kindergarten readiness preschool for children ages 3-5.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creative Learning Preschool is a Licensed Family Child Care Learning Home (FLCCLH) in Valdosta, GA that specializes in kindergarten readiness by using an evidence-based curriculum to provide students with engaging learning experiences through play. Students develop independence and self-control, while also growing socially, mentally, and physically with their peers. I am also a Certified Early Childhood Educator currently working towards my Ed.S in Early Childhood. I believe this is what sets us apart from other FLCCLH in our area.

I am most proud of watching my students grow and building everlasting relationships with families. I am excited to continue the work in Valdosta ensuring that the early childhood foundation is set for all students entering Kindergarten.

I started Creative Learning during the pandemic which made it a challenge; however, as a military spouse with lots of support from fellow military families, and promoting my business I was able to overcome the challenge.

Some lessons that I have learned in these last 2 years are to establish business boundaries, separate friendship from business, and stick to the rules and policies that are listed in your handbook/contract.

What I want the world to know about me is that I am passionate about Early Childhood education. I am a “teacher called according to his purpose”. My purpose produced my passion, and it is my endeavor to ensure that every child that comes through my program has the foundation needed to be successful when they enter the Public/Private school system.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city to eat are Friends, Smoking Pig for good BBQ, and The Mix for some good ice cream. I live in a small city that is just starting to expand, we can always drive to Jacksonville or Orlando for some fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my amazing husband Marcus, and awesome children Marcus Jr, Paris, Elijah, and Londyn. Thank you for supporting my passion, and dreams, and being the most amazing staff (LOL). My success in this business is because of your alls unselfishness. I love and appreciate you guys.
