Meet Charlisa Houston | Entrepreneur & casting director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlisa Houston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlisa, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my accomplishments is “no matter what happens in life, keep going! When I was coming up my father was very competitive. so losing was not an option and over the years I set a standard for myself to become an overachiever. I became my biggest cheerleader and supporter so it is easy to motivate and push myself to go harder.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I moved from California to Atlanta in 2017. Before this, I worked in San Francisco at sephora.com. I knew I had bigger goals than to work at a desk job all day. So when the opportunity came my friend was the one who convinced me to take the chance. When I did a whole world of opportunities started pouring in. I tell people all the time when the opportunity finally comes that’s when you work your hardest to keep it, show your talent. I was one of the ones who did extra or more the necessary just because I wanted to show I am more than just a pretty face and tattoo. I set myself apart because of my fashion and tattoos, I wore my signature pink and noticed people would dress like me or asked to be styled by me. So one of my goals was to own my brand so everyone could have access to the things that I like and what’s trending today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from California we love to sightsee so I would take them to historic landmarks and good places to eat. I think because of television and social media when my family comes to visit they kind of have an idea of where they want to go, so I just take them to places out of the ordinary so they can experience the real Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my family and my mentor Kay Clark. I thank all of you for never giving up on me and continuing to support my dreams.
