Meet Charles Huggins | Skin care enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles Huggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charles, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The story behind Ageless essentials is a simple one. When I first started making body butters it was essentially for me. I had suffered from eczema from an early age and as I got older and did research into the creams that were given to me I did not like the side effects. So I set out to find a natural alternative to the steroid creams that I was using. That search led me to Africa and the many herbs and plants that are there. I came across the cocoa nut, Shea nut and the mango seed. Once these nuts or seeds are crushed a butter can be extracted from them. Those butters, along with jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, as well as Teatree oil have immeasurable benefits for the skin. That is why these are the simple ingredients that I include in all of my butters.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I had been making body butters for a few years before I decided to sell them. I generally made them for myself and as gifts for friends. I was approached by a friend a couple of years ago to make some for each of her son’s teachers for Christmas. It was such a success, I immediately received requests for more. It was at that point that I realized that the demand was enough for me to start my career in skin care. The skin is the largest organ of the body and it is a great indicator of a person’s health. What you put in and on your body is extremely important. What most sets me apart is the fact that I am a Black male with a skin care business and I use all natural ingredients in my products. My goal is to not have anything in my products that I cannot pronounce or spell. Lol. My products do not contain preservatives or harmful chemicals. This is important to me because of the fact that I still deal with eczema.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I’m gonna start off with saying I am not sure I can host somebody for the whole week, taking them out every day, but I can see myself hosting a three-day weekend. LOL I love the outdoors so as long as the weather permits, I would love to go hiking, Maybe try out the Toccoa swinging bridge. After that, get cleaned up and go to a bottomless brunch in the afternoon, possibly a rum punch brunch. Right now I know that the Thompson Buckhead is hosting a Stevie Wonder exhibit so I would definitely go there in the evening. It is something that everyone should definitely check out. That would be day one. The second day I would probably have to take it a little easier and start a little bit later in the day. I’m thinking about taking my guest to Sneaker doodle and customizing some sneakers, grabbing some food from the Busy Bee and then going home to relax while eating in my backyard. I would love to just enjoy the weather and my good company. My Sunday would consist of going to morning service at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and going out to eat afterwards at Copeland’s of New Orleans Atlanta.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I first have to acknowledge the fact that without GOD in my life I would not be where I am today. I was raised in an Pentecostal home and church where I was taught from young to honor GOD in all that I do.
My work ethic comes from my parents, who worked tirelessly to ensure that I had everything I needed to be the best I could be.
My father is the catalyst to my entrepreneurial mindset. He was born in the Dominican Republic, where before the age of 24, he had already established a successful ice cream shop and bookstore. When he came to America, initially intending to expand his ice cream business, he later established himself and went on to start several businesses. Before the age of 50 he was able to retire from the workforce and is currently working 100% for himself.
