Meet Chantel Thompson | Owner of Heaven Scent Fragrance & Registered Nurse

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantel Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chantel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought of having a business was never a thing for me after graduating college. I thought having a degree in Nursing would be the financial freedom I wanted. However, over the years after having children, I have realized that it would only make me free to an extent. I would still be working in corporate America and I wanted to build legacies for my children. I thought long and hard for about two years before I took that leap into the entrepreneurial world, and that’s how Heaven Scent Fragrance came about. I decided to dive into the fragrance world because of my love for home fragrances and personal perfumes. I believe that “if you step outside smelling and feeling good, then you should feel the same when you step into your home or personal space”. Heaven Scent Fragrance is a luxury scented fragrance line that started with a high-end candle. It will eventually include reed diffusers, wax melts, other home fragrances, and personal perfumes. My brand was not made to just sell basic candles. My thought process behind my brand was to create something that will not only add to your home or personal space decor with its delightful scent and appearance but will also create a sense of purpose, hope, and inspiration as each product is elegantly packaged and comes with an affirmation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Registered Nurse and owner of Heaven Scent Fragrance, a luxury scented fragrance company. Yes, they are two different avenues, but my love for home fragrances and personal perfumes was my drive in starting my own business in the fragrance world. I am beyond proud of myself for even starting. Most times people leave this earth and the idea of starting a business leaves with them; it never made it past the thought process. So, for that, I am proud of. I got to where I am at today professionally because of my determination and dedication to be successful. It is not easy, but I have patience and I trust that by the Grace of God, my brand will continue to grow and I will be even more successful. I have learned throughout this journey that you have to trust the process and enjoy every step of the way. Success does not happen overnight and you have to build the support. Why should I support your brand? Why should I trust that what you tell me is true about your brand? Those are some of my driving questions; whatever I provide to my customers should be authentic and useful. This is also what sets me apart from others, my drive. I focus on what is important for my brand and try to stand out in such a saturated industry. I want the world to know that Heaven Scent Fragrance will be my first successful brand that will be the driving force behind my business venture. I want people to also know that my brand is like my third child and I seriously treat it that way, so whatever I provide will be genuine. I want others to experience what I experience after a long day of work, and you get home to a nicely scented home, or you run your bubble bath and relax while you enjoy the amazing aromas around you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were to come for a week, I doubt we would have enough time to do all I would like for us. We would definitely visit Atlantic Station; HobNoB is a vibe and they have local vendors from all over the state that set up throughout the area selling their products. We would visit Spice House, to enjoy some authentic food from our culture, as we are Jamaican. We would also visit Hattie Marie’s BBQ for the good A1 southern food. We visit the World of Coca-cola and of course, the Georgia Aquarium as we cannot leave the kiddos out lol. Botanical Gardens is also somewhere I would like to visit so it’s on our list of places to go. I definitely want to hike up Stone Mountain as well. I have heard the hike is no joke lol. To enjoy the nightlife, we would visit Virtue Rooftop at Colony Square. I am new to the area as well, almost 2 years, so I am excited to travel around the city myself. Can you tell we love to eat and we are all about the vibe? Lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my kids, Azair and Amari Grant, my fiancé, Derrell Grant, and sister, Jeneil Davis . They give me a drive that I never thought I had. Without them and thinking about the future I would like for us to have, I doubt I would have even started my business as of yet.
