Meet Chanel Douglas | Jeweler & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanel Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chanel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Life is full of risk. I feel like you can’t get very far in life if you don’t take risk. I worked at a job that I hated very much and I was very afraid to take a leap of faith. I worked as a cashier and owned my own business on the side, I always seem to put my job before my business. Finally one day I was let go from that job and I was forced to take a risk and invest in my business full-time. After risking it all and believing in my business I made my first six figures. If I would have never had faith and believed in taking risk I would have been stuck where I didn’t want to be and that was working on someone else’s job.

What should our readers know about your business?
Please tell us more about your business.
The Coco’s Collection started in 2018 with only 1 necklace, “The Originator Necklace” . I started going to the flea market on Saturdays to selling my product. Once I realized that I was getting a lot of support & my job started to intervene with me going to the flea markets on the weekend, so I decided to add the product to my website.
what you are most proud of or excited about.
Seeing my business grow and not giving up when this entrepreneur life gets the best of me sometimes. It makes me very proud of how far my business has came. I’m always excited to see what the future holds for my brand.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
Staying consistent and never giving up. This journey wasn’t an easy path. I started off clueless. Knowing college wasn’t for me and working a 9-5 wasn’t either I had to figure something out. I started off selling distressed jeans, shorts etc. I stopped that because I just knew cutting up jeans was just a side hustle it wasn’t something that I wanted to do longterm. So I decided to start selling hair, I did that for a period of time I stopped because my heart wasn’t in it it came with too much. I remember one time my hair package got stolen at that point I was over it. In the mist of me selling hair I started selling chicken wing plates at my mom house, even had dreams of owning a food truck. I love doing that the support was amazing literally had my mothers house packed every Friday. Until I got reported to the Health Department. I knew that I was going to have to find a new income and I was dedicated to not working 9-5 so The Coco’s Collection was created.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
You’re never going to know it all, you’re going to make mistakes learn from them and keep going.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I started off only with a dream and I kept going. If I can turn my dreams into a reality so can you. This brand is a brand that represents that it can be done.
