We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanel Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanel, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to pursue a career in acting because of my deep passion for storytelling. Storytelling is the art of bringing narratives to life, allowing audiences to experience diverse perspectives, emotions, and journeys beyond their own. As an actor, I am able to transform words on a page into living characters. The craft of acting allows me to challenge myself through each role, while also discovering new aspects of myself. In doing so, I am able to contribute a strong connection between the story and the audience, enriching their understanding of the world through each role I play. Overall, being able to do this brings joy to my heart.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The acting profession is filled with obstacles, but my love for challenges reassures me that I’ve chosen the right path. One of the toughest parts of acting is facing more rejection than acceptance. I’ve embraced the mindset that each ‘no’ is simply a ‘yes’ postponed, which has helped me stay resilient and overcome the disappointment of not booking roles. Recently, I shifted my perspective on auditioning. I used to feel nervous and overanalyze every detail, but now I see each audition as an opportunity to display my skills and passion for acting. One key lesson I’ve learned is that great acting starts with self-awareness and bringing a genuine presence to every role. I turn to self-help books and podcasts to continually work on my personal growth. To truly connect with the characters I portray, I must first understand my own emotions and responses. I’ve found that acting is like any other muscle – it grows with regular use. When I’m not filming, I’m constantly training through classes, workshops, and tackling new monologue challenges. What truly distinguishes me is that acting serves as a form of therapy for me. Through embodying different characters, I explore various facets of my own emotions, allowing me to process and release feelings in a constructive way. Acting not only hones my craft but also enriches my personal growth, making each performance a journey of healing and understanding.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just recently moved to Atlanta and still exploring the area. My best friend and I would have to discover all of the best spots in town together. If there are any recommended places to check out, please let me know.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a big shoutout to my manager, Olivia Shumate from A.D.S. Management for believing in me. She is one of my greatest advocates, consistently offering unwavering support and being there whenever I need guidance or assistance.
I would also like to give a shoutout to my first acting coach, Alex Popovic from the Ivana Chubbuck studio. He has helped me access my core emotions, enabling a sincere connection with each character I play and audition for. He is more than just a coach, he is a mentor and an inspiration.
Lastly, I would like to give a shoutout to Rotten Goose Productions for taking a chance on me. They gave me my first lead role in a film titled Black Slasher. This role is what sparked my desire to continue acting. I don’t even think they know that it was my first time acting, but they welcomed me onset and allowed me to have fun with my character. I am beyond grateful for all of the support from everyone in my circle including friends, family, coaches, manager and agents.
