We had the good fortune of connecting with Chandler Furman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chandler, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to won my own business. Growing up my mom and dad both worked and my dad has always owned his own business. Although it comes with many challenges the reward is worth it. I have always wanted a flexible job that I can do on my own time and I have also always wanted to do something creative. I got my first camera for a class that I was taking in high school and naturally photography became my new hobby. From there I grew it into a business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of what I have been able to learn and teach my self while running a business. I am currently in my last semester of Undergrad as an Advertsing Major in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications at The University of Georgia. Through this degree I have been able to learn what it takes to market yourself as not only as a photographer but as a brand. I always tell people that taking and editing the actual photos is only about 10% of the job. When you run your own business you are the social media coordinator, the marketing director, financial advisor and so much more. It is possible for anyone can learn to pick up a camera and take good photos with practice. However, the number one thing that I have learned is that it is all about connections and how you market yourself that takes it to the next step. I am proud of my self for being able to utilize my degree to teach my self all of the behind the scenes that comes with “being a photographer”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is such a fun city with many things to offer. However, one of my favorite places to go would be ponce city market. There are soo many fun restaurants and shops and then you can ride or walk along the beltline!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are the only reason that I have been able to grow my business. I owe everything thing to them, they have always supported me. Likewise starting out as a photographer is hard, you have to grow your portfolio. I am so appreciative of the many people who met up with me to do practice shoots so that I could learn how to grab the right angles and get the right lighting. With out them I would not have been able to turn my hobby into a business.
