We had the good fortune of connecting with Chains Over Razors and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chains Over Razors, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Our success stems from our perseverance and attention to detail in our musical writing and promotion. As a unit, we are the most critical of our work as we are fans of our own music and we love what we create. We stay true to ourselves and have a relentless work ethic. We know fans and critics will love to kick back and listen to our messages in the songs when we release our music upon the world. We also spend countless hours rehearsing, practicing, and songwriting and if you have seen us live, you can hear it in our performances as we are razor tight. When we perform live, we make sure that every person who sees us live has an incredible time listening and rocking out. We enjoy meeting new people and speaking to everyone after our shows to learn more about them and their stories and have good laughs. We accept everyone into our family, which we call “Hellrazors”. Through our social media accounts, we interact and engage with everyone and discuss all sorts of topics and respond back to every single person. We are three humble musicians and believe that personal engagement with music listeners is why they continue to support Chains Over Razors as we care about them just like they care about us. There is equal reciprocation and respect for every single person we meet whether in state, out of state, or internationally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The group formed in early 2015 when Mikey V. (guitarist) and Andy V. (drums) began working on new music. We then approached a previous singer we knew, Franco V. Roc, about singing on the tracks. We realized quickly that we have something that we could move forward with and got serious about it. In 2018, William Mullen (singer) became our newest addition when Frank had to leave the group. We met William in a recording studio and soon afterwards we got to work writing our 2nd record forming the definitive lineup of Chains Over Razors. The 2nd record released and spawned four Top 40 Active Rock Billboard charting songs and led to our group being Nominated in 4 categories for the ISSA Awards (International Singer Songwriter Association). We have spent hundreds of hours recording our record and showcasing our talents on stage. We are musicians and business men behind the scenes persistently making calls, emails, speaking to sponsors and various promotions.

We are a three-piece band that breaks down barriers of what is possible as a unit. We can be highly melodic & aggressive musically, up tempo, moderate tempo, or extremely progressive in our song compositions, which leads to a wide appeal to many music fans worldwide. Our style is described as Heavy Rock/Heavy Metal. We like to call it Epic Melody Groove. Our Influences range from Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Pop, Country, and R&B Artists throughout the years. Everyone in the group listens to anything and everything. You can name any artist and they are most likely one of our many influences which translates into our style. It was not easy to get to where we are currently at professionally. Everyday becomes more increasingly difficult to navigate through every aspect of the industry, but we keep on moving forward pushing past each obstacle; as the music industry landscape changes and evolves every 3-6 months. So as a band, we have to be highly adaptable business wise at the same time being our true selves and not giving into the pressures of what the industry wants. By being unique ourselves, this separates us from the rest making us leaders in the specific category/style that we are creating. We don’t sound like anyone and no one sounds or can emulate our specific unique style.

Recently, we have been highly engaged with the Mixed Martial Arts community sponsoring Athletes/Fighters and have been huge advocates for Mental Health awareness. As this territory continues to be further developed with our brand, we continue to establish fantastic relationships & friendships with various professional fighting leagues, professional athletes worldwide, and mental health organizations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We, typically, take them to live shows in the area and listen to different styles of music. This can be from Heavy Metal/hard rock shows to blue grass or even country music depending on their particular taste in music. We tend to keep it low key with our friends and take them to local bars and hangouts. Many times, if the weather is great, we have BBQ parties and invite a group of our friends to chill, relax, and share stories with each other. We never take our friends to anything touristy as the Chicago Culture is heavily rooted in local areas and gives the best experience for anyone visiting. It also leads to a memorable visit that they will most likely come back and visit again as it provides a really good insight into the nightlife culture of the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to thank our Producer and mentor, rock legend, Carmine Appice. From day one, he stuck by us and continues to push us past our musical boundaries; setting a new bar each time. With a high standard being set he would always leave it up to us to develop and push our songwriting skills in the most spontaneous creative ways. We have exponentially grown with our composition & songwriting skills as the knowledge he mentored us with expanded our mindset, views, and approach. We are extremely thankful to have worked with such a creative genius. We also would like to thank our team and record label, Deko Entertainment, for believing in us and having full artistic freedom. Our record label gave us complete freedom to express ourselves musically and in business decisions provides us with all the tools we need to continue to move forward and market ourselves. They are all about listening to our needs and keeping an open line of communication that allows us to have such a successful and collaborate partnership with the company and the team. Their business knowledge and expertise allows us to make the proper and wisest decisions to grow as an artist.
