We had the good fortune of connecting with Celine Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celine, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I am Celine Johnson, a 22-year-old full-time college student, studying Multimedia Film and Production. At the beginning of my college career, it was not challenging to find balance between my school, personal, and professional life. Over time the balance in my life changed, requiring me to give more attention to my professional life. As a college freshman, I worked alongside the media crew for my college football team creating football highlight videos. Soon after, I became a YouTube content creator (Celine Johnson TV) and spent most of my free time shooting and editing content. Now, as a Senior in college not only do I have a job in retail, but I also work with the Multimedia Development Center at my university broadcasting sporting events on ESPN+. In addition, I have started my own videography and graphic design business called ChosenLux Media. The more opportunities I take on to develop my creative skills the more I understand the importance of balance in my life. I have found that balance is bringing into harmony everything in my life, and seeing how things collaborate rather than compete. By maintaining a positive attitude, prioritizing my time and being purposeful, I am able to maintain balance in my life. I also believe that having a balanced life comes with leaving things in God’s hands rather than trying to control every aspect. Oftentimes, our lives can be so overscheduled that any minor inconvenience causes us to be flustered. By giving my life to God, it reduces stress and makes room for bigger and better opportunities!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have recently started my own business, ChosenLux Media. ChosenLux Media Specializes in videography services and graphic designs from YouTube intros and music videos to business cards and logos. ChosenLux Media works hand and hand with clients to create out of the box content and designs. It is difficult to start a business while being a full-time college student, but it is entirely possible. I am most excited to see my business grow and learn new creative techniques to help others turn their vision into reality. I have learned that there is no such thing as being “ready” when doing something for the first time. Start now with what you have and with what you know and allow yourself time to learn and grow into everything.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to eat and I am a pescatarian so I love seafood. C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar has some of the best oysters I have ever tried and is a must visit for all of my seafood lovers. I would also encourage everyone to try Slutty Vegan! It is black owned and they have some of the best vegan fast food in the city! Rocksteady ATL is also a great spot to visit and vibe. It is a restaurant with a lounge upstairs, they have a live dj and play a lot of Afrobeat and Caribbean music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Through everything, my family and friends are always there to love and support me. They support my creative ideas and are always there to celebrate my success. In addition to my family and friends, the Multimedia Development Center at my university has provided me with a creative workplace to learn and grow. It is very important to have a positive workplace with mentors who allow you to make mistakes, try new things, and get you out of your comfort zone. Lastly, God deserves all the credit and recognition for where I am today and where I will be in the future!
