Meet Celeste Lomax: Steward of Medicinal Herbs & Volunteer Coordinator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Celeste Lomax and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Celeste, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The Browns Mill Food Forest is more than just fresh food access for the community. We are evolving into a place of healing as we struggle to keep our fresh food access within our community. Our youth are experiencing nature deficit disorders, and have a severe lack of resources. We want to provide programs that will not only elevate our community but to provide hope and opportunity that is long overdue. We want to teach sustainability through education on how to grow, but also on how to heal the whole person. mentally, spiritually, and healing the body. We will offer Eco therapy experiences with outdoor yoga, silent walks with forest bathing, a sensory children’s program. The friend’s of will be creating jobs for those in the community. We have lot’s of things being impliment that people are not aware of, due to media just focusing on free food for all which is the wrong narrative.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Celestial Care Solutions LLC is all about using Horticulture Therapy as a alternative to healing in holistic health & wellness by sensory and nature combined. I am most proud of how we have grown from just being a food source for free food for the community, to being a place of healing. We are much more than growing food and eating healthy. This is what sets us apart from most of the food forests popping up all around us. We have had a great amount of volunteers that have helped us to build this space. The Brownsill Urban Food Forest is a safe place for letting go of stress, and breathing in fresh healthy air, while receiving good old vitamin D3 naturally. I am the Food Forest Manager and Community Organizer. I am most proud of the work that is being done to address the mental health issues our community is facing now more than ever. I overcame a lot of my challenge through the support of other like minded partners who had my back, and supported my mission. The lesson I learned was it takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a community to change the world!! our Gro to Glo kids program is now under way that focuses on k-12. We also are working with Dr. Erica Holloman on the woman with our new HOW program (Healing Our Womb) wellness program. Celestialcare Solutions LLC is working to healing as many people as possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
if you were a visitor here I would ask you to come to the Browns Mill Urban Food Forest to relax. Let your hair down. We would do some forest bathing by walking the 7.1 acre. on our walking trail. we would stop by the herb garden and touch, taste, and smell the aromatic herbs. Take three deep breaths in and release all your stress that you may have. baste in the sun and receive the vitamin D that we need for healing. visit the community garden and taste the muscadines or a red raspberry, or even stop by the blueberry patch a grab a few berries. I would say visit downtown and ride the skyview ferris wheel. Whatever you do, let’s be outside!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank Dr. Erica Holloman of WAWA for their support, love and encouragement in our children’s program as we connect the two largest food forest in Atlanta together, we will provide food for the whole southside of Atlanta. I would like to thank iwi fresh farm who works together as a company in the community to engage, empower and educate about wellness and our environment. Farm-to-Skin is our culture. Our goal is to conduct EcoEndeavors to engage the youth. Through a partnership with the Urban Food Forest at BrownsMill, we will offer an elevated Community Youth Environmental Education experience. I would also like to thank HABESHA for their support and mentorship through dedication to educate our communities on sustainability and community collaboration. Together we are better. It takes a village!!
