We had the good fortune of connecting with Caylin Sams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caylin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am completely made up of creative energy. I would be lying to myself if I chose a path outside of the arts. The tricky part for me was deciding to pursue acting full-time. I considered a career in marketing or graphic design. It would provide more stability and I’d still be able to exercise my creativity, but film has always been my dream. I booked the leading role in my elementary school’s play when I was in first grade and I’ve been in love with acting ever since. At the end of the day, it is not a goal of mine to look back on my life and be proud that I played it safe. I decided I wanted to go for it and hopefully inspire others to shoot for their dreams too, even if it’s scary.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Chasing a creative career is certainly challenging. It’s really easy as an artist to get in your head about it all, which is why it’s important to be surrounded by the right people.

I have had the pleasure of working on a couple films with David Axe. The first one was ACORN in 2022. I came to a fork in the road on that film and had to decide wether I really wanted to act or just liked the idea of it. I have to shoutout my parents, my husband and my sister for helping me keep my head on straight! I almost gave up, but with the encouragement of my family, I kept going. I’m also very thankful for the techniques I’ve learned in Tony DeMil’s acting classes that helped me through that shoot. I’m very proud of that film and all the lessons I learned from it.

With that being said, I am so excited to play the leading role in the upcoming action/crime thriller called CAVEGIRLS in a couple weeks. With David Axe producing, JB Torres Medina directing and the rest of the amazing team, I can’t wait to see it all come together.

Acting is so much fun because I get to see the world through a different perspective for a while. To prepare for the role in CAVEGIRLS, I have been working out three times a week with Virtual Bodies and taking boxing lessons at Dog House Boxing Club. It’s been really cool to throw myself into something new and find out that I really enjoy it. Boxing was intimidating at first, but it’s become one of my favorite parts of every week. Also, music helps me get to know my character better so I have been curating a playlist. I discovered a kind of music I didn’t know existed that I love listening to. All this new discovery about myself through playing a role is so exciting. I can’t wait to show the world CAVEGIRLS and all the hard work everyone is putting into it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay, let’s plan a weekend trip in Atlanta!

Friday night, catch a show at The Eastern in the Atlanta Dairies. Make sure to get there early so you can grab a couple drinks from the Three Taverns Imaginarium brewery. After the show, go to Ok Yaki for their late night menu and cocktails. If you want to stick with beer, they usually have the YoHo Sorry yuzu salt ale. It’s so good and hard to find anywhere else. Ok Yaki specializes in Okonomiyaki and other regional street foods from Osaka, the food capital of Japan. It’s one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the city. I get the yakisoba, handmade gyoza and edamame with crispy garlic chili oil.

Saturday, get brunch at BeetleCat in Inman Park. Walk around and shop. It’s a cute little area. While you’re making your way to the Plaza Theater to watch a 35mm film, you have to check out Little Five Points. It has so much quirky charm and good vintage shops. After the movie, get ramen at Jinya Ramen Bar. It’s right behind the theatre. I get the spicy creamy vegan ramen. It’s delicious even if you aren’t vegan. Or you could get pizza at Fellini’s Pizza right down the street!

Sunday, check out one of my favorite speakeasys, Eleanor’s. To find this fancy speakeasy, go to Muss & Turner’s. Pass by the host stand and walk into their walk-in fridge. It’ll open to reveal a secretive, magical hallway that leads to Eleanor’s. If you don’t want to partake in their delicious cocktail menu because you’re about to drive home, that is totally fine! Their food is just as amazing as the cocktails.

A couple more of my favorite places to check out are Monday Night Garage, Lady Bird/Ranger Station, Ruby Chow’s and K-Pot. For my actor friends, check out classes at Outside the Box with Jason Collett and Meisner Intensives with Tony DeMil!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to Kelly Bell, owner of Southern Dance Precision in Villa Rica, Georgia. Kelly is an incredible dancer, choreographer and teacher. She was my dance teacher in high school and she laid down a good foundation for me when it comes to accomplishing goals. She expects the best from every dancer. She challenges weaknesses and showcases strengths, making each dancer better after each practice. She taught me that it takes more than just wanting something. You have to be disciplined, determined and work really hard for it. She is a perfect example of tough love. Dancing with Kelly is one of my favorite memories and a huge reason why I have the confidence to do what I’m doing. I’m so thankful for her guidance in my life.
