We had the good fortune of connecting with CaTonya Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CaTonya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After working many years in the demanding corporate world, growing tired of the typical 9-5, not be able to spend much needed time with my children due to not having a work life balance, I made a promise and goal to myself that by the age of 40, I would no longer be committed to hitting another corporate clock. I was blessed to be able to do so at the age 38. My children have always been my why and my strength. I started focusing more on leaving them a legacy to carry on for generations down. (Proverbs 13:22).
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a single parent while working for corporate America came with its challenges. Having to miss important events and sometimes having to choose between staying home to care for a sick child or risk getting hit with a point from work due to working for the demands of corporate America knowing you would be on your last one leading to termination. Anyone that knows me, knows that my children are my life, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I graduated Magna Cum Lauda from my HBSU Miles College of Fairfield, Alabama, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (a degree I began seeking back in 2007) and I am now a proud Law student of Birmingham School of Law.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was coming for a visit, I would treat them with a visit to City Club Birmingham for the sky rise dining experience. The menu selections are so good and made to order fresh. The view alone is breath taking and it overlooks downtown Birmingham. I would also have Tiffany Zinnerman-Bryant, owner of Tiffany’s Twisted Tails, and the mixologist/bartender/waitress at the City Club Birmingham mix up one of her delicious, personalized cocktails with a twist. Then on to the Plum Bar for some live band action, and before the week has ended, It’s a must that we visit the Humidor Room Cigar & Scotch Bar for drinks, cigars, hookahs, and live karaoke fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to a group of phenomenal women I am honored to call my GOALFRIENDS!! LaToya Meadows of Simple Tax Solutions, ShaneQua Lewis of Smooth Tax Solutions, and Best Author and friend Danielle Tuwano (Lights, Camera, LEVEL UP).
