We had the good fortune of connecting with Castavious Felton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Castavious, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My Family is a big reason behind my success, because of the fact they are my motivation. Growing up, I always wanted to contribute to uplift or inspire my family to do better. I’ve watched my parents do some amazing things, especially coming from their hometowns. They never let anything push them away from their goal and as I reflect back on their lives and how they created the best life for my sister and me, I feel like I owe them the world. Also, they have taught me that hard work, organization, and dedication can take you far in life, and as long as you stay consistent an opportunity or blessing will come knocking at your door. Another factor behind my success is watching my Grandmother perform miracles for my cousins and me. I never saw someone care so much for others while still handling issues on her own. despite all she was going through, she still managed to stay positive. Don’t get me wrong she fell short sometimes, but she still got back in there head first. She is the main reason why I started my business as a photographer, I never admired the money she brought in, my joy came from watching people beg her for her services and how happy they were to receive their cakes and how they would call and inform her on how delicious they were. My parents and grandmother are the main factors behind my success, that will never change
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The name of my business is Stro Shots Productions LLC. THE root of my business name rooted from a childhood nickname my grandmother gave me, Maestro, meaning a great or distinguished figure. Once I realized the meaning, I always thought to myself like I’m going to do something really big one day, my purpose is going to impact the world in such a powerful way. How I got started with photography, was when my bro Javon gave me a camera for my birthday and told me to make it work. I sat myself down and didn’t know anything about taking pictures, but what I did know was that I had a very charismatic personality and it would be easy for me to work with others to start something new. I started taking graduation pictures of my friends at Alabama State University. As time went on, the process was not easy at all, but the mistakes I made I did learn from and that didn’t do anything but help me move forward. As I look back from where I started, I realize at first I was just doing this for the money but when I see how happy my clients get after a shoot, if turns that feeling into a passion and motivates me to keep going. i think what makes me stand out from other photographers is how natural my pictures are.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I stay in Lithonia, Ga, which is located about 25 mins outside of Atlanta. its plenty of places to go here such as a falcon, braves, or hawks game. Also, we have hole in the walls that I enjoy such as puttshack, selfie museum, and pin and proper. The restaurants here mind-blowing, my favorites would have to be kelz kitchen, gutbusters, and milk and honey. the list can go on and on about fun things to do here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off, I want to give a big shoutout to God, without him none of this would be possible. Also, I want to shout out to my family and friends, for always supporting and being there for me. Big shoutout to my girlfriend/best friend Cathryn for being the glue to my business and helping me keep my head on the right path.
