We had the good fortune of connecting with Caspa Cross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caspa, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from a small city in Alabama called Tuscaloosa. You may or may not know but it’s the city where the #1 college football team is for the last 8+ years. But that doesn’t at all explain the city besides the fact that all media outlets in the city are tailored to football and football only. But I was there before they started this run. My city is a small town at this time with small town motion. The locals are mostly simple ppl who live simple lives. From that I took inspiration to not do what the normal thing was to do & go right, but instead go left & think bigger in a major scale. I think that’s the most important thing I learned from beating from there was to think bigger than the norm.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My first step in the direction of music production was starting an online store for music as a teen. That grew into a joint business that I ended up having with two other partners called “The Illionaires” For a while we began growing and becoming very popular amongst the online community. Being online I always caught myself doing research on producers and other things on YouTube where I discovered events called beat battles. There was another producer also from Tuscaloosa who was making a ton of noise who went by the name of M16. I watched his battles and any other battle I could find until one day I finally caught wind of a battle happening and I signed up. Of course watching and competing were completely different so I ended up being put out in what I think was the second round of my first one. I had to drive to and from Atlanta completely on my own to compete but I was determined so all I could think about was when the next one was. Once I found out I signed up for it as well. During this time I was working at a plant back home and I went in one night & something told me to ask ppl how long they had been there and every person’s answer was at least 10 years. That night when I got off I signed up for two schools in an attempt to get away from this as soon as possible because I know my destiny was not inside this plant. One of those schools called me back and I set up my tour during the week of the next beat battle. So when I finally went back I ended up getting put out in the first round this time and it crushed me. I actually went in the bathroom after and just looked myself in the mirror seemingly questioning myself about whether or not this is what I should be doing. While I was in there I heard the host call my name again. This time their way an uneven number in the count of the battle so they needed someone to come back & because my round was so close they brought me back for a rematch against the producer that put me out. Imagine a rap battle round for round then the judges choose the winner if they can, if not one last beat and they decide. I won & put him out and ended up coming in 2nd place & I knew I had to move to win. Eventually I move to Atlanta to be able to compete full time and I win my first battle & end up winning two more in the same week which sort of propelled me in a way. I used those wins to obtain a internship which taught me how to engineer. I eventually move to Miami where I keep doing events and walking my cards into studios. I come across a live streaming show by some Grammy winning producers where they listen to up and coming producers. I submitted my material and they were impressed, told me to keep sending weekly. Which I did for about a year and it resulted in me getting signed as a co-producer to their label or studio. It was not what I expected it to be for me but I did witness these guys change my bros life. It was more for him than me. If anything I have learned that nothing is certain regardless of the situation and that you should always take advantage of the things directly in front of you and do that to your best ability with humility and good spirits at all times because you never know who someone is going to be next year..

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me I would have to take you on a food run because there are a few places in my hometown that aren’t in any other city. My first stop back home is always a spot called Taco Casa. I could eat it 5 times a week lol. I would definitely suggest going to a football game or at least experiencing the strip on a game day. Our drinking spots change every other year so it would depend on the time they come. Outside of that there’s not many exciting things to do back home for me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off God for certain but Yes. Alandria White. My daughter mother & the sole reason I am able to continue my journey today. While she may not realize how much I appreciate what she is doing I never fail to recognize it. So whatever path we are on at the time I make sure to try to tap in and show it when I’m am ok’d to do so. Shout out to her.
