We had the good fortune of connecting with Cashe’ Gregory and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cashe’, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Cleveland, Ohio. The little girl that blossomed in the 216! I grew up in a single parent household. My mom didn’t play “both roles” as some would want to say but, she held parenting down 100%. I was surrounded by the powerful strength of women (grandmother and aunts).
I also grew up as the only child until I was about 12 or 13 years old on my mom side (1 brother) & I have 3 brothers on my dad’s. My upbringing built me for who I am today. I have always took what I had and made it worth while. Being around the strength of women allowed me to feel like I can endure and conquer anything life has thrown or will throw at me. A non existent relationship with my dad was not my choice but, it allowed me to create a family for my children in present time.
Being a sibling rather older or younger taught me how to lead and protect what’s mine. I’m the only girl on both sides so, I’ve had “spoiled” moments but, for the most part I’ve always worked hard for what I had. My upbringing also helped me to appreciate the things that I didn’t have growing up rather it was a relationship or materialistic things. It allowed me to turn my pains into passion. Even as an only child “technically” until a teenager I had to learn how to network and make connections at an early age.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think of my serial entrepreneurship work as a ministry. Many people are inspired by my entrepreneurship journey. I have trail blazed over the last 8 years. From business coaching down to my street wear brand (Melani-Jik) I have faced adversity and succeeded many times. My best success yet is being able to coach upcoming business owners or established business owners.
Showing them how to market and brand themselves is always fulfilling. Educating them on how to reach social media outlets, gain sponsorship, how to monetize off social media and most importantly communicate effectively is always the goal.
My focus has always been minorities but, more targeted to women because….that’s my tribe! lol . My love for helping to build businesses and brands is what allowed me to create my streetwear brand and bring meaning to it. Melani-Jik is melanin and magic combined. I came up with this name after trial and error with 2 other business names (Thee Beautiique & Cashe’ Arrielle Collection) for my boutique that was started in 2020. My vision started out as a boutique.
Eventually, I decided that I didn’t want to provide the same clothing as others. I wanted to actually put meaning into the clothing I sold. I decided to go more so private label. I wanted to still be fashion forward while being consistent with my business and branding motivation for others.
What sets me apart from other streetwear brands is that my phrases and designs are personable thoughts of mine. I’m always thinking of how to connect networking with fashion. My goal is to continue building that confidence barrier between that new or established business owner who doesn’t know how to promote themselves and the consumer looking to support.
I am most proud of those who have taken my advice, resources and even my apparel and have grew in their confidence, consumer and reach. I am also proud that despite the roller coaster of this loving journey , I have not called it quits. I am excited to know that there’s more to come. Excited to know that even at 30 years old , God still has more for me to do. He has more for me to learn, create, more people for me to motivate and educate.
I became an entrepreneur in high school. I always thought it was the dopiest thing to turn a small dollar amount into a bigger one. I was in a program called E-City that taught me the power of the flip. I took those tools with me through my adult life. It took me until my youngest daughter was born to take entrepreneurship serious again. I was tired of working a 9 to 5 so, I decided to take entrepreneurship on full time.
It isn’t easy but, i’s doable. Suffering with Anxiety disorder and trying to run a business can take a lot out of you. When you’re always worried about the “what ifs” it distracts you from the “why nots”. Once you realize that, you then began to slow down and go at your own pace. It took trial and error to see what actually made me happy not just money. A lot of prayer, strategy and educating myself is what helped me to overcome challenges. I’ve learned many valuable things along this journey and still learning. One of the key things is that it doesn’t matter what place you are in the marathon , just make it to the finish line. Be okay with trying new things. Challenge yourself before getting too comfortable.
What I want the world to know is that , I will continue to motivate, create and help the next person up as long as I can. Cashe’ is on the rise and the message vocally and through actions will continue to grow and gain more supporters. It is my belief that melanin men and women are magical without even trying. We are innovators, creators, CEOs, nurtures , and the list goes on. We have all we need to succeed in this journey of not only entrepreneurship but, life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much to do in the city! I love that there’s always something going on. I’m still learning all of the city’s “Go to” spots and I’m not much of a drinker but, we still vibe over here lol some of my favorite places to go would be….The Real Milk & Honey (food is fire), Slutty Vegan, Hot Betty’s, Poke Bar, The Atlanta Belt Trail, Green Lit networking event, Crumbl Cookie (best cookies ever btw), Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola Museum, Breakfast Boys, The Selfie Museum, Urban Wok, Flying biscuit, Zaxbys (I love them lol) , maybe a concert and pretty much anything/anywhere safe with a lot of vibes!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to my children (Kylinn & Kaidynn), My mother (Veronica Gregory), my grandmother (Jaqueline Houston), The love of my life (Robert), all my family & friends. I appreciate all those rather family, friend and or stranger that have supported me over the years and showed me love when they didn’t have to. Those supportive messages, purchases, encouraging words and prayers kept me lifted in times I couldn’t hold myself up or felt frustrated.
