We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Hodges and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was fairly easy. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, so what better way to do that than launching a business. I’ve always been into beauty products and cosmetics so I felt that this would be the perfect opportunity for me. Even though at the start I didn’t have it all planned out as I should have, but looking back I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
By day, I work as a Clerk for the United States Postal Service. It’s a really demanding job, but it keeps my business funded. What sets me apart from others is that I embrace my obstacles. It sounds strange, but for me it’s always something good in the end. Either I win or I learn a lesson and it’s important to be able to keep moving no matter what comes your way, especially being a business owner in these days and times. The lessons that I learn on a day to day are things that helps me to become who I am supposed to be and helps me to keep putting my all into the brand that I am building.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city is anywhere that serves great food. I really like a lounge by the name of BQE that serves red velvet chicken and waffles and I loved them. I also love Paschal’s. It’s a historic restaurant, the food is great, and every time I’ve visited, the service was on point. I also love going to the comedy clubs here, but due to COVID I’ve been missing out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would give the credit to my Parents. Growing up, I’ve always seen them work hard with no excuses. They always encouraged my siblings & I that we could do anything we put our mind to and that still sticks with me today. My Mother also started her own business. She went into business for herself as a Daycare owner after working 15+ years in the childcare field. To me, that made me think that it’s never too early or too late to go for your dreams as long as you do it. My Father was in the United States Army, and retired from Corrections after 33 years.. I’d like to think he’s responsible for my work ethic. I had amazing hardworking parents that instilled faith, working hard, and humility into me and those are some of the things I still live by to this day.
