We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Duren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
My grandfather raised us to work for everything we had. I feel a solid work ethic has definitely been the foundation to my success. He raised me not work hard and not be lazy. He instilled the philosophy of “you work for what you want don’t wait for someone to hand it to you.” No cutting corners, no pity parties and no taking shortcuts.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own an independent tax preparation service, Rapid Tax Service. Competing against all the big named tax preparation services comes with challenges for sure. They can offer some products that someone like me can’t offer such as pre-season tax loans. But what sets us apart is several things, I believe. Pricing for one. We offer a fair price for tax preparation. Often, our preparation fees are several $100 lower than the national chains. Secondly, personal service. Every year, my clients know they will see me, and they know they can easily contact me throughout the year. The turnover at those big-name places is extremely high and you never know who you will get year after year as your tax preparer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are located in the “Hollywood of the South”, Covington, GA. We are known for shows such as the Dukes of Hazzard, In the Heat of the Night and Vampire Diaries. There is a cool little trolly tour in town that takes you around to see all the filming locations. With a must stop for lunch at Mystic Grill. A local restaurant created to look just like the Mystic Grill in the Vampire Diaries show.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I could name here. My grandfather, P.L. Chandler, was definitely one of my biggest fans. He used to say, “You can be President one day.” Also, my dad, George Duren, he was never the type to vocally support you but he lead by example. He worked during the day and extra jobs to make sure me and my siblings had everything we need to succeed in life.

As far as work mentors, I give a lot of credit to two people, Madison Bowen and Chester Benton. Madison was my manager when I worked at a local pharmacy and he pushed me to be the best I could be. Chester did this as well. Always wanting me to aspire to do great things and to be there when I needed advice.
