We had the good fortune of connecting with Carson Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carson, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

I think just being authentic goes such a long way in expressing yourself on social media.

Anyone & everyone is on the internet now, if you’re not authentic then the audience will pick up on that quickly.

I just truly love interior design, antiques, thrifting, and everything in between so the content just flows naturally. I think my audience really resonates with my passion for design.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My journey to self-discovery began when I embarked on a DIY renovation of my rental condo, starting as just a fun idea & transformed into a whole time-capsule home.

I launched Carson’s Room in late 2022 & over time it has become an internet sensation, showcasing my 1980s-inspired designs. I know what people think when they hear 1980’s, my style isn’t the usual assortment of bright neon lights and leg warmers. Carson’s Room is majorly influenced by Miami’s 1980s Art Deco revival period and Hollywood Regency maximalism with a focus on soft tones and materials like brass, glass, and beautifully lacquered furniture.

While creating captivating content, I have amassed over 10 million views, 1.2 million likes, and an impressive following more than 27,000 fans. Through TikTok, I
engage with my community, offering tips, answering questions, and sharing about my passion for aesthetics of this bygone era.

My audience resonates deeply with the fun and dreamy aesthetics of my 1980s home, where every single furnishing & décor piece was found in estate sales, antique shops, and

My success on TikTok has affirmed my talent and ignited a desire to help others bring their dream homes to life. One day I envision establishing my own vintage inspired design service studio one day.

With an emphasis on unique pieces and curated aesthetics, I hope to keep inspiring others with my personalized and memorable spaces that can transport anyone to the nostalgic 1980’s.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Hmmm…

For a fun Saturday:

I would start with a 8:30/9am breakfast at Highland Bakery in Inman Park.

From there we would hit 2 or 3 estate sales. Maybe two in Morningside and one in Decatur. Since we’re in Decatur we must pop in my 2 favorite vintage stores— Mother Lode & Decatur Estate Vintage Market. Luckily they are located next door to one another so I always have to see what’s new at both.

From there I have made dinner reservations at BoccaLupa for classic Italian with a fun twist.

Finish the night with a milkshake at Jake’s Ice Cream by the Beltline.

A perfect day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Atlanta— Atlanta itself deserves this shoutout.

After moving here 5 years ago I had no idea the direction my life would go in.

5 years later I’m happier and more fulfilled than I’ve ever been. Making fun content is just the cherry on top.

Atlanta is such a historical place with so much to offer. For me the access to places like Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC), incredible estate sales, Scotts Antique Market, curated antique/vintage shops, and Facebook Marketplace have shaped how my blog was able to succeed.

I’m so grateful to be able to call Atlanta home now.
