We had the good fortune of connecting with Carshina Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carshina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
It’s important to create a balance in daily life and work. Being a mom, wife, artist and business owner has taught that schedules are vital. I have continued to be disciplined in being consistent which has helped me over the course of business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing is easy in life, and we have to work hard for things we want. Leaving a job with a salary position to work in a impoverished community and offer free programs for inner city youth was a leap of faith. The hard part of it is having no funding. Volunteers , staff and myself continue to make it possible to offer these free and affordable programs in our community. The difference about our program is we don’t just teach performance arts education, but we also focus on social and emotional learning. We provide mentoring and host community outreach events so our youth understand paying it forward. Being the change in the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Home run in pizza. Open Mic or Karaoke
Tacos

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
