We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Ellington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
A life changing event, the loss of my Mother, made me realize that I needed to take the risk and stop playing it safe in my design career. Although I was very successful working for a large design firm for over 16 years, that loss made me realize how much i needed to make a shift in how I was living my own life. It was the best decision I ever could have made! It was a major risk and very scary, but, ultimately the best choice for me. Working hard for yourself hits different.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am Founding Principal / Interior designer of Ellington&Co. Design, We are an award winning residential Interior Design firm based in Minneapolis with clients nationwide. We help clients from a complete build of a new home or a remodel to just furnishing a room or two. Making the world beautiful one room or one home at a time is our life’s work. Bringing joy to those who live in our creations is the ultimate goal.
We stand apart from other firms with our decades of experience and our ability to add a little twist in everyone’s space. Each home we put our hands on is new , as each homeowner is different from the last. It is exciting to create what the homeowner loves to live in. We listen and design accordingly. We love to collaborate with our clients, builders and architects.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow! The list is long in those who have supported me, encouraged me and loved me to get me to where I am today. My parents always encouraged me to be myself from a young age. The best story is from kindergarten. I wanted to wear striped pants and a flowered smock top every day. (Quite the creation).. Instead of making me wear something “normal” or different, my Mom washed this outfit every night so I could feel my best. Letting me be creative at a young age imprinted my soul. .. My son has always made me strive to be successful to take care of him as a single Mother, he is responsible for my drive and direction.
My family and friends have cheered me on in so many ways. They have hired me, referred to me clients and have celebrated every success along my long career.
ALL of them deserve credit for the space I live at today. I am so grateful and thankful.
