We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolyn Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolyn, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I just want to get paid to do what I love with the one I love! I hope that one day my husband and I are traveling the world photographing weddings and/or concerts together. I think that would be the ultimate goal for my business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My biggest artistic passion is photography. I love everything about it! I do all sorts of photography too, I could never niche down and just do one type of photography. I really do love capturing moments to remember forever, but also to create magial stories! Everything from concerts, to weddings, to fine art high fashion editorials. Even funerals. There is beauty in everything, everywhere you look. Memories being made that should be captured in time forever. The good, the bad, the ugly, the beauty. I want to photograph it all! I want to help others see the beauty in theirselves and the world around them!
Photography definitely isn’t easy. (Despite so many people with cameras leading you to think the opposite!) If you want to be good, that is. I want to be more than good, I want to be saught after. I will always strive to learn and improve, always reaching for that ultimate goal. Photography is expensive. It’s time consuming. It takes hours upon hours of education and practice, of trial and error. It’s people judging you and your work. It’s wondering if you’re good enough. And it’s continuing to shoot for the stars, despite all of that.
My brand, Catch Your Fire Photography, encapsualtes all of that! Where ever there is beauty, I will find it and showcase it the best way possible. I will catch your fire, in every situation!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am currently based in Huntsville, Alabama. However, my husband is from Atlanta so we know the area and visit frequently. We are always willing to travel for a great photo shoot! We would definitely want to go on a nice hike, maybe at Stone Mountain. Then, when we’re finished with the hike, we’d pobably want some food. Something we can’t get in Huntsville. Something like The Varsity, or maybe a small Mom & Pop hole-in-the-wall resturant downtown. Maybe we’d go check out The Underground or visit the zoo. I am definitely spending a day at Six Flags! There’s honestly so much to do in ATL and surrounding areas, it would be hard to do in just a week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I never really had much of a support system until I met my husband. He is my biggest supporter and I wouldn’t be where I am without him.
