Meet Carolina Torres | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always believed in creating designs that are rare. Everything from hand painted dresses to elaborate hand beading/ draping. I work with clients one on one to create a personalized experience. The drive behind my business was to provide unique custom designs for people while giving them the chance to feel beautiful and confident in their skin, for any and all body types. I offer slow fashion, producing 2 collections a year while being able to help the environment at the same time. I do this by repurposing fabrics and minimizing fabric waste.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Carolina Soma started in May of 2019. I attended a highly prestigious school in Argentina that specializes in evening wear, called Roberto Piazza Fashion Design School. I put the years in of dedication, persistence, and consistency to ensure my designs would stand out from the rest. What I create is unique and no one piece is ever made twice! I specialize in evening wear and carry ready to wear designs as well. My pieces are one of a kind because they cater to each customers personality and style through elaborate hand beading, hand painting, and draping. I create a space of confidence, comfort, and self expression with each person I work with to bring their dream dress to life. I spent years growing my designs and earned a wonderful reputation for quality, craftsmanship, and personal attention…I make sure my customers feel heard, beautiful, and confident. My pieces have been worn by attendees at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York, as well as being featured in many magazines, and blogs such as Nordstrom’s “From the Floor”. I have won “Best of the Upstate” for clothing design in both 2021 and 2022! I would say the most challenging part of my business has been producing locally, being able to find seamstresses to assist on my designs in my area. In order to get my designs completed on time with minimal assistance, I simply spend longer hours working on my designs and am the one not only creating and sketching, but sewing the pieces as well. I want people to know that you do not have to be in a fashion capital to be a fashion designer…you can exist in a smaller town and be very successful! I am most proud of my designs being worn around the city and being known by word of mouth. I have many customers that come in because they saw my dresses at galas and events that caught their eye. I have clients that are located in Atlanta, Florida, Massachusetts, and even as far as California! My business is much more than fashion, we cater to people on a deeper level so they are able to look and feel different as they attend weddings, events, and nightlife! I am able to positively impact people through my designs. I also am unique in the sense that we focus heavily on helping the environment as much as possible by repurposing fabrics and minimizing fabric waste.
Being a business owner is not easy, but to be able to live out your passion is something special. Even the hardest days motivate me to keep going simply because the clients reactions are priceless!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have children who absolutely LOVE the Georgia Aquarium! I am very family oriented and love doing things with my family. We love walking around different parts of the city and exploring!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband: Carlos Torres – For supporting me and encouraging me to keep pursuing my passion.
