We had the good fortune of connecting with CARMINE DAVIS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CARMINE, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was raised in a home that quietly promoted the entrepreneurial spirit. My mother was an entrepreneur. When I created my podcast and started to create and release my music independently, I saw a niche that wasn’t done before by people like me and I knew if I wanted to be in that lane I would have to be fearless, consistent, and run it like a business like my mother did with her own business. My mother was bold as she casually stepped into that lane of a business owner. Being front row to her hustle was something that helped me remove any doubt that I had about my own.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is driven by authenticity.. Through the years when people dive into my art, whether it’s listening to the first season of my podcast or stumbling across an old song that I released when I was younger,, I want them to know that that is who I was at that time. When people listen to my music, watch my podcast,or look at my social media today I want them to see the growth. I want them to understand that “this is a person who is true to themselves and everything is growing from that place”.

In the beginning stages of my career, I did not embrace the “Black Queer Creative” hat. It was something I felt that I had to shy away from to be successful. But as I started to create and think about my career and what I want to express in my work, I realized that those places are where my stories come from. The podcasts I produce and the songs I write and the way I sing… it comes from the place of being BLACK and QUEER and it’s amazing!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Alpharetta, GA and I have been blessed to host my friends here pretty often. First, I would take them to have brunch at Snooze near North Point where we would probably drink morning margaritas. Then we would come back, get dressed and head to The Halcyon area where we would bar hop! Eclipse Di Luna and Hobnob have the best bartenders in the world. After we get to feeling good we would call a ride-share to the city where I would hit up Johnny’s Hideaway in Atlanta. They place the best music and they close late. After a few more drinky-drinks we would hit a ride-share back up and stop at Whataburger in Cumming! They’re open 24/7 and I love their spicy chicken sandwich! Grab it and head to the crib, shower, and binge watch some Housewives.

The next day we would sleep in, of course, walk to nurse the hangover, and hit the gym to burn off some of the cal’s. Then we would probably head to Los Rios in Cumming (THE STRONGEST Margarita’s in North Georgia) or go to La Parilla on Winward in Alpharetta! Both of those places have the best regulars and they always are throwing shots at us. We would eat, drink and head home to get ready for another night in the city! We would get a rideshare and hit up Blakes, Bulldogs or MSR in the city! Just a typical weekend! ;0)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first shout out my Heavenly Father who is the owner of my gifts. I would like to also shout out my incredible mother for, not only embracing me, but also giving me the room to be myself as a child. When I think of my childhood, it wasn’t always pretty, but I was able to create and be free to dream and be my authentic self. As I got older I realized how rich my home was because of it. Thank you, Mother.

I would like to thank all of my friends who have inspired me, my teachers and instructors who have guided and praised me, the many brilliant and talented people who have collaborated with me throughout the years and thank you to everyone who may have doubted me because without them I would not have the opportunity to exercise and strengthen my faith.
