We had the good fortune of connecting with Carley DeMarco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carly, what keeps you busy professionally?
Roots & Wings resources for tween and teen girls is a passion project of my co-founder Candice and I. We connected at my yoga studio and spent a lot of time discussing how most of us were not taught about self-love and self-care practices as children. Many of us struggled through painful teen years and early adulthood—wouldn’t it have been wonderful to have had these tools back then?

Candice had the beautiful idea and name of Roots & Wings for a while at that point, and one day at a tea shop we decided to build the business together. Our purpose is to take the tools and lessons it took each of us decades to learn and bring them to young girls now, arguably, when they need them most. Some of the practices we introduce include yoga, breathwork, meditation, journaling, nutrition, nervous system regulation, stress management skills, and empowerment/confidence tools.

We are hosting our first tween & teen girls retreat this summer in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains at Heartwood Retreat Center. It’s happening July 13-16 and we have only 2 spots left.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start with a class at Clayton Yoga then go to Tallulah 1882 for a drink followed by a whole day at the river.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
