We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla & Abraham Marks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carla & Abraham, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process started with the people around us. We found ourselves surrounded by entrepreneurs and creatives who needed their brands seen and voices heard. Families came to us when they wanted to freeze moments in time. Therefore, we made it our mission to help everyone leave their marks behind. They came knocking when they wanted to generate supporters besides mom on social media. During 2020 families turned to us to safely capture family pictures more than ever. They were grateful to have photos to share with loved ones who they couldn’t see in person. In the process, we were also leaving our marks behind.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Media Marks started as a hobby for us. Abraham was into music and Carla was into photography. It was refreshing to meet someone who had a passion for creating. After numerous conversations, we discovered that independent creators needed a company that could help with creating content as well as branding. Once we started, we found how rewarding it was to be apart of the creative process and watching someone’s dreams unfold. During the creative process you get a sense of freedom and it can also be a form of therapy for us.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta has so much to offer from it’s rich history, music culture and incredible art scene there is so much to cherish about this city. When our friends visit we set the tone with the SkyView Ferris wheel for a bird’s eye view of our beautiful city during the night. Ponce City Market has an array of restaurants to choose from. We would spend our time here eating, shopping and playing carnival games on the rooftop. There’s no way we can have friends in town and not take them on the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola and Botanical Garden tour. We would end our week with a comedy show at Little Five Points.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If we said building a business couldn’t get ugly sometimes, we would be lying to you. Our business has taught us that the key is to not focus on the destination and just enjoy the journey. Through all the ups and downs the genuine ties are what makes the journey beautiful. We have met people from all walks of life and built solid business relationships from making every encounter a personal experience for them.
We would like to shoutout Hello Gorgeous Boutique! HGB held a pop up shop and invited us to take photos. While we were there we forged a relationship with a vendor that lead to other opportunities. The owner Kim and her daughter Annica are the most selfless people you will meet. We are so grateful for HGB!
