We had the good fortune of connecting with Carl Veney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carl, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was a child I always saw myself standing out or being an outcast. I chose to pick modeling as a career because I get to express all of the different characteristics that make me stand out.’
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well absolutely nothing was handed to me so becoming a model really only happened because of something so simple. I took a picture in my closet for my MySpace account when I was like 12-13. Everyone loved my picture and kept saying I looked like I was in a music video because of the way I put my look together like I looked like a star or something and honestly that simple picture is all it took for me to dig a little deeper into myself and fashion. It wasn’t easy to get where I am today i had a really rough life but god had me the whole way. I overcame everything I went through just to do what I’m doing now I may run into a fan with the same problems as me and could help be a positive example that just because life beats you up doesn’t mean you won’t live your dreams. Something’s that make me different from others is I’m willing to try different types of clothing pieces and will make it look like gold. Also my hair really makes me stand out not to many people even have the patience to go through what I’ve gone through with my hair.
Man one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is stay independent I cannot express enough. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a team but make sure it’s YOUR team. A team that YOU put together with people you genuinely trust. Now if you want to join an agency go ahead but understand you sharing profits with them but you got people you cool with that can do that same work and we all eat.
I want the world to know that Veneyway is a brand that will be coming to help local and universal models to get on their feet and figure out their lane and what they want to pursue as a model. I don’t want people to go along with a companies Blueprint for their career I want to build models with independence go get it yourself be in control of you own life and career it’s yours right?
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to plan a weeks worth of activities definitely first stop for food would be at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken they have the best chicken and it’s always fresh. Next definitely I say this for everyone and even if this is just for the experience go to the dispensary just check it out. I’m a big kid I love to go to the racetrack at K1 Speed so that’s definitely on the list I can spend half the day there. You always have to goto the outlet mall. You cannot come to Chicago and not goto the shed aquarium we have a ice cream museum now that seem interesting. Another good place would be Taurus Flavors and get steak hoagies you not living if you haven’t had a steak hoagie. Chinatown is a whole day by itself between food and festivals it’s a place called uni uni for bubble tea and Bonchon omg their chicken is the best they have so much to choose from as far as food, dessert, drinks, gift shops, and restaurants. Late night definitely would go to Rivers Casino and have some drinks and play some money then head down to rosemont to bowl at Kings bowling alley. I don’t do clubs to much it’s not what it used to be which is unfortunate but it’s so many adult friendly activities now it’s crazy
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Some people who deserve recognition would definitely be my little brother Smiley he always supports me with this modeling. When we were young he always talked about one of us finding that bag of money….never thought it would be me but shoutout to him because he believed in me and GOD DID
