We had the good fortune of connecting with CannaShame Network and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CannaShame, what inspires you?
At the Cannashame Network, we are inspired by freedom; freedom of people and freedom for a plant. We believe that no one should be incarcerated and have their life and future impeded and even stripped from them for a plant, that in 2022, people are making millions of dollars from. Also freedom for a plant. Cannabis has the right to exist and be used in a multitude of ways. It is plant, just like any other. So we are inspired by freedom.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The CannaShame Network is all about canning the shame of cannabis consumption. We were founded in 2021 by Georgia Medical Cannabis Society founders Yolanda “Herbal Trucker” Bennett and Angela Weston. They have worked in the non-profit cannabis space in 2019. They worked with patients helping them to get their medical cannabis cards and they were patients themselves. After seeing how this plant has changed so many lives, including their own, they realized there is a message that needs to get out and they wanted to be a part of getting it out to the masses. They contacted two other advocates Arica Jay and Tianna Smith to see if they were interested in going the movement. And in 2021, CannaShame was born. What sets the CannaShame Network apart is we are media solely focused directly on eradicating the stigma of cannabis usage. There is no other media company doing that. The proudest moment we have celebrated thus far has been the creation and establishment of CannaShame Awareness Day. We just had our second one 10/1/22 and it was phenomenal! The Atlanta cannabis community came out and it was a success. We put a lot of hard work into that event, and we are glad it paid off.

Starting a new business is never easy and creating a movement around that business is even harder. However, we do not let that stop us. Our passion and knowing we are changing lives for the better is what helps us overcome gurling late night meetings, schedule changes, disagreements and growing pains. You have to know your “why” and we are well aware and stand firm in ours.

We want everyone to know that there are real stories and people behind and a part of the cannabis universe. From the people who consume to the people who distribute to the growers and those behind bars. This is not just an industry of dollars and cents and projections. It is people whose health and lives are affected everyday by this plant for the better and worse. Through the CannaShame Podcast, which airs on YouTube and Twitch, we want to shed a light on these very real people and give everyone a place and space to come out of the cannabis closet and know that it is ok to consume and be a part of this space regardless of the lies and propaganda that has been spread for more than 85 years. We are a safe space for all of those who want to consume without judgment, and we even have a platform for people to share their stories with the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, we are going to Toast Buckhead for Brunch (because everyone loves brunch in Atlanta).

Then we are definitely going shopping in Little 5 points.

Next we will go to Stonecrest, GA which is a predominantly black owned suburb of Atlanta. There we will go visit the KrownMe Flagship Store and Black Wall Street which are all black owned businesses.

For Happy Hour we will come back to Atlanta and I will take them to the Trap Musem or the High Musem of Art (depending on what event they are having.)

Then for Dinner will go to Two Urban Licks.

Then to hang out for the night we will go to Peter Street, Edgewood, and then to East Atlanta Village.

Thats a fun day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to shout out all of the non-profits doing the work. All of the advocates who have been working on cannabis reform in this country for decades now. And we want to shout out all of the patients who have found pain relief, peace, and a way to carryon to the next day due to the use of cannabis.
