We had the good fortune of connecting with Candyss Weaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candyss, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is by Nido Qubein – “Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.”

I love this quote because it almost instantly creates a mindset shift any time I see it, hear it, or say it. Too often we see all the obstacles associated with our present circumstances rather than fixing our gaze on the opportunities. It’s a reminder that our possibilities are as endless as we believe them to be. We may need to get creative with how we proceed, but rather than carrying the weight of our past and present on our backs, we should use them as stepping stones to continue onward and upward.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Career Coach, my heart’s mission is to help women unlock their potential and own their greatness!

I spent the first four years of my career shrinking myself in an attempt to fit in because I always found myself in the minority. Whether I was one of few Black employees, the youngest teammate, or one of few women, I constantly found myself at tables where I didn’t feel like I belonged.

With a little pushing/encouragement in that fifth year, I finally started showing up boldly and never looked back. With that, I’ve been able to take the lead on major projects, secured two promotions, and changed careers twice within five years.

I then shared those techniques with friends and family, helping them secure raises, promotions, and new jobs. Once I proved that it wasn’t just a one-off thing that just so happened to work for me, I decided I needed to establish my business, Demand Development. Since starting my business in 2018, I’ve helped clients overcome mindset blocks, find careers they love, secure 5-figure salary increases, create work-life balance, break into completely new fields, and much more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most of my time out and about in the city consists of eating or working while eating!

Some of my favorite spots for eating include Little Alley Steak (Roswell), Nouveau Bar & Grill (College Park), The Vortex (Midtown) and Rosati’s Pizza (Buckhead).

Some of my favorite spots for working while eating include Colony Square and Ponce City Market.

As far as additional things to check out – I love the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Georgia Aquarium. The Painted Duck and High Museum of Art are two super cool spots as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my husband! Not only has he been super supportive throughout the entire “building a business” process, he’s also been my secret weapon behind-the-scenes. Between the two of us, we have experience wearing all the hats – job seeker, employee, recruiter and hiring manager. As a career coach, it’s super beneficial to have a peek into the different perspectives.
