We had the good fortune of connecting with Candyce Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candyce, what do you want your legacy to be?
Very few people realize that you were born to leave a legacy and to fulfill a purpose. I personally feel we should all leave something that can be valued and treasured long after we have transitioned from this natural world. How you live your life will influence how you are remembered, and I want my legacy to be one that lives on through the lives of others. I want people to remember how I impacted their lives. I take encounters with me seriously, whether casually, professionally, or in passing. I am naturally a person that gives amazing energy effortlessly and I am often told that I am wise beyond my years. I think my legacy will be how I treated people and the good seeds I have planted. The different hats that I wear professionally and personally have allowed me to touch thousands of lives just by sharing knowledge, compassion, and encouragement. I have helped people transform their lives and have been blessed to see the manifestation of the fruit from the seeds I planted. I used to do workshops at Dekalb Juvenile Court for Runaways and Unruly Youth. My typical audience was 50 participants bi-weekly. For many of the families, this was their only encounter with me. Years after I left the court, I remember having a mother and daughter walk up to me at a restaurant, call my name and say I changed their life. They proceeded to tell me what I said in the workshop that changed her from a teen delinquent to a college student. That made me look at legacy differently. A legacy will not always be tangible as in a business, name on a building, my book, or even my family. I realize that every time someone repeats something that I have said or a mantra that I live by to better their life I am leaving a legacy. Whether you are a client, hear me on the radio or podcast as a guest, or see me on a panel, I want my legacy to be that I left people better than I found them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I C.A.R.E. Alliance, LLC is a Life Coaching and Mental Health Consulting agency dedicated to helping clients discover “I Create A Reverse Effect”. Through our services, clients learn that they have all the tools within to foster change. They discover how to move to the next level of living in every area of their lives. Life balance and Holistic Healing is the focus of I C.A.R.E. Alliance as clients seek to live intentionally, unapologetically, and without boundaries. I C.A.R.E Alliance workshops are very unique in using activities that are metaphoric to life and they take participants on a journey that allows them to process their past, live in the present, and embrace the future. My most popular workshops are “What Kind of Flower Are You”, “Broke But Not Broken” and “Canvas & Coaching”. Since being in business, I have had two proudest moments. My first was being the keynote speaker at an event in Dubai. It was held at the JW Marriott Marquis which is the 2nd tallest hotel in the world. And as I delivered the speech “LIVE”, I truly felt like I was on top of the world as the engagement solidified my title as an International Life Coach & Speaker. My 2nd proudest moment is self-publishing my book, Step Up to the Next Level: Your Personal Guide to Living Intentionally, Unapologetically and Without Boundaries. The reason that this book publication was so important is that I designed the Next Level Model, which has been effective in transforming lives. Also, as we discussed legacy, this book will outlive me and will impact individuals well after I have transitioned from this earth.

I understand that life is going to be life; therefore, I go with the flow of the current instead of fighting against it. This has allowed me to overcome what many would perceive as challenges, as well as has helped me sustain my business. When things are good and busy, I embrace that moment and remain humble and grateful for the blessing. When things are slow, I take that time to reflect, take care of myself, and go to the drawing board. I think this attitude has allowed me to not get burnt out or discouraged. I also think I am successful because I am a natural at transforming lives and I know without a shadow of a doubt that I was created with a purpose, a divine assignment, and no circumstance, situation, or person can change that.

I am very excited for 2023 as I will officially launch my Mastering Grace Kit, which will teach people how to heal and live a fulfilled, not perfect, life daily. Along with the kit, I C.A.R.E will expand its grief services to one-on-one counseling, grief workshops, and the GOOD GRIEF Candle line. I am encountering an increased number of individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one, relationship, finances, dreams, etc., and I feel I C.A.R.E has the expertise and tools to help individuals understand grief and move forward in life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First of all, my friends know that I love entertaining so my back patio would be the first destination. I would treat them to an evening of their favorite cocktails and a seafood low country boil, grilled salmon, or a tender Cowboy Steak with all the fixings. The tiki torches will be lit and soft jazz and/or old school Hip Hop and R&B would play in the background as we laugh, dance, relax and make memories. Most of my friends share my love for live music, theater, and sports, so the Fox Theater or Playhouse, a local amphitheater, City Winery, State Farm Arena, and/or Mercedes Benz Stadium would likely be on our agenda to indulge in one of our loves. Most of my friends also enjoy a good cigar so an evening at Cigar City Club or Fellaship would be a perfect ending to a Saturday night. After a Sunday Worship experience, Sunday Brunch is essential and there are too many great restaurants in Atlanta to name. The most important thing is that the visit ends with my guest saying it was just what they needed and “food for their soul”.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to shout out the Self-Help Queen and Purpose Whisper, Jennifer S. Lester. Jennifer is a Licensed Psychotherapist and Certified Life Coach who owns The Purpose Project. The first day I met Jennifer was at Dekalb County Juvenile Court where we were placed on a Mental Health Treatment Team for juveniles with drug offenses. She immediately introduced herself and asked me “What do you do?” I started telling her I was the Mental Health Assessor who would conduct the biopsychosocial. Jennifer stopped me and said, “No. What do you do? In life. What is your purpose?” That day was a game changer as Jennifer became the Life Coach that continues to see my gifts and push my talents to the limits. The Self-Help Queen is responsible for my becoming a Certified Life Coach, Author, Life Coach Instructor, Corporate Motivational Speaker, and much more. She is a driving force in my living life without boundaries.

My mother, Nancy Whisettse Hudson, has been instrumental in the person I am. At an early age, she always encouraged open communication about anything, and when you talked to her, she would actively listen without judgment. She has no problem correcting or disciplining you, but she has always done so from a place of love and wisdom. I have found that I use this same approach not only with my own family but also in my life coaching and mental health practice. I definitely think I am successful because, thanks to my mother, this is not a skill that I have studied, practiced, and perfected, but it is truly who I am. So, when people have a conversation with me, they are not getting just a practitioner. They are getting the authentic Candyce, and my mother is responsible for instilling that skill set in me.
