We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Riley Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance felt like an unattainable ideal throughout my 20’s. It was a concept I avoided discussion of because I always felt like it was a measure of success I had yet to grasp. Something defined by others and often read about, never mastered. The truth is, I worked to the point of recurring burn out for the entirety of my 20’s. Travel was my only respite [and that travel was for work projects].

It truly wasn’t until the birth of my second son (fast forward a decade) that I felt a distinct shift in this mindset. A brazen call to accept slow down, retire pace and be content with the reality that I will perpetually be behind on something to be present for someone else. The removal of necessity to always be on has allowed me to show up in more intentional ways for my family, my team and myself.

Today, work and life are in flow most days. I find joy in making work work, and through the constant support of my wonderful team, we continue finding better ways to keep moving forward, all while accepting faults, learning from failures, confronting the uncomfortable and battling inboxes and to-do’s one day at a time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Nimble. Design Co. is a multi-disciplinary design consultancy dedicated to Branding for the Built Environment®.

We’re invested in bridging the gap between brand and place to deliver spaces and experiences that feel hand-selected down to every last detail. It is this approach to user-centered design and undeterred service that makes our studio truly different. We believe in shaping places through experiences that align to the culture of the people they serve.

Approaching year seven, I’m concretely certain our best work is yet to come. This is the beauty of design. As we change, the dynamics and needs of our environments do too. Nimble. views design as a powerful vehicle for storytelling and we’re honored to continue to explore design in new and ever-changing mediums on behalf of our clients and core teams.

We most look forward to getting out and discovering again in 2021. 2020 was a year of maturity, sensibility, focus on health, team and sustaining. 2021 will be our year for growth, tinkering and practice.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A Georgia resident since 2005, I proudly admit my bucket list of restaurants to try, hikes to make in Spring, and drives to experience in Fall span more than a few saved Notes on my phone. My go-to’s tend to begin as simple discoveries — a neighborhood coffee shop, an uncrowded park, a perfect patio, etc.

Some of my current go-to’s include:

• The Chastain for am coffee and a [too close to make excuses] walk around the park
• Buttery ATL for the best grab n’ go salads I’ve experienced in ATL (and obviously a to-go cookie)
• An afternoon on the Big Creek Greenway
• Meeting friends in Downtown Alpharetta for drinks and a progressive meal, always including Coalition Food and Bev.
• A mid-am coffee at Chattahoochee Coffee Company (on the river)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout goes to my dedicated leadership team at Nimble. Design Co., Lauren Riedling, Stephen Wright and Maria Royal. Always dreaming, always learning and never afraid to say ‘yes’.
