We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice McRae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started out making my haircare brand called KandiKare. As I started growing my brand I realized that there wasn’t a platform for people like myself who had a haircare business to talk about their brand as well as educate people on their natural hair. This is why I started the Kinky Hair Kulture podcast. This podcast helps people who have haircare businesses or products talk about it as well as educate. Now, people can get to know the owner, the story of their brand, get hair tips and get the product they need to grow healthy natural hair.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a Podcast that helps people understand their natural hair as well as set them up with some amazing hair care brands that can help you on your natural hair journey. What sets me apart from others is we give the audience one on one conversation from the brand owners life and how they got started, while giving hair tip. I am excited about teaching people how to take of their natural hair. Learning about your natural hair can be so powerful. The things we can do with our natural hair are so amazing. I got to where I am today but it was not easy. Self-doubt almost got in the way. I was afraid of who wants to listen to something like this. Yet one thing I always keep in mind was if you are passionate about something it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks or wants to listen to it will all come together. By keeping this thought process I was able to push toward my goals. I learned to keep putting yourself out there and sharing your brands on all social sites this will help you with getting your brand out there. Even when you think nobody is watching or listening they are..
What I want everyone to know about my brand is that we are passionate about getting you the knowledge that you need for your natural hair. We set you up with some amazing haircare brand owners that can get you the right products for your hair. Even if you don’t have a brand and just want to talk about your journey our platform is for you. I started this brand because I am passionate about hair. I once was relaxed and wanted to get to know my hair. I didn’t have any issues with my relaxed hair at least I thought I didn’t. I didn’t think about the long-term damages until I went natural.

I have children that are already natural so I already had experience with natural hair. You are getting some who didn’t do the big chop or once was relaxed and transitioned. So all the help you need our podcast will provide you with the knowledge to grow healthy natural hair. We do natural hair apparel as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I fell in love with hair watching my sisters Kisha and Melissa doing hair when I was little girl. They taught me the dos and don’ts of taking care of my hair when I was a little girl. My sister Melissa is a licensed Cosmetologist.
