We had the good fortune of connecting with Candenetra Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candenetra, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Being an entrepreneur teaches me that consistency will take you and your brand a long way. Before truly understanding this, I used to give up on projects and business ideas any time they weren’t moving fast enough in the direction I had hoped. Now, I am learning that just because the tree has not bloomed, does not mean the seed is not sprouting below the soil.

.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am always excited to explain the name for Ratchet Nerd Group because of how many people relate. A Ratchet Nerd is someone that may participate in ratchet activities or even listen to trap music but simultaneously spends time reading, learning new languages, or whatever you would consider a nerd to enjoy doing. A Ratchet Nerd is someone that would not quite be considered a nerd, but still does not exactly align with the ratchet community. Despite any of the labels, a Ratchet Nerd is someone that is unapologetically themselves in any environment because they are confident in their brilliance. At Ratchet Nerd Group we like to show people (especially job seekers and small business owners) that you can be successful without compromising who you are or the lifestyle you want to live. Being among competitors that have been in the game longer than you, should not intimidate you. These ideals shape the mission of Ratchet Nerd Group.

I used to be very intimidated by the IT field when I first graduated with my degree in mathematics. I am a black woman with no internships on my resume, no network or friends in the field, and I was a recovering self-doubter. Graduating in the middle of a pandemic pretty much pushed me to gather all of the knowledge and skills I acquired, then make a run for it. I knew that if I felt I did not completely belong in the IT field with the “nerds” I would have to make my own path. Ratchet Nerd Group shows everyone that the same skills and knowledge needed to advance in technology comes in many forms.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My all-time favorite spot is Feedel Bistro, an Ethiopian restaurant in NE Atlanta. The food is always made to perfection and the drinks are the most unique I’ve had. The restaurant is relatively small in size, but the atmosphere is always perfect and the service is sincere.

A Brave’s game is also a great way to spend a Sunday. I went for the first time this year and had a ball!

For drinks, I definitely go to New Orleans Daiquiri Bar; this is where I visit when I want to leave tipsy and FULL of great food.

I do not go out very often, but I have gone to Pasha Restaurant and Bar on a Thursday and, boy, did I have the time of my life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had been sitting on the term “Ratchet Nerd” for years but never knew what I wanted to do with it. In the last year, I had the pleasure of working with a publisher by the name of Lattifa Bryant at Build Your Own Book, LLC (BYOB) on a few projects. Before this opportunity, I was beginning to feel like, despite my degree in mathematics, I didn’t belong in the field of technology. Being a recent college graduate with no internships on your resume can be intimidating and overwhelming. However, I gained more confidence in my skill set because Lattifa understood and acknowledged the value my talents brought. This opportunity helped define the mission of Ratchet Nerd Group, which is to encourage brand owners to feel empowered, not intimidated by the world wide web.
