We had the good fortune of connecting with Candace Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candace, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I birthed the idea of Elegant Affairs I had just successfully planned my own Wedding. Here I am a newly wed, in a new city & state (Dothan, AL) & a mother of a very energetic 2 year old still on a high from creating the second best memory of my life (my son was definitely my biggest accomplishment at that time).
Fuled with successfully completing my wedding I knew I had found my passion in Event Planning & Décor.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well Elegant Affairs is a Full-Service Event, Wedding Planning/Coordinating & Décor Company located in Dothan, AL.
At Elegant Affairs we cultivate creativity, ease, and love throughout our clients whole Event or Wedding Planning process. Bringing their personal styles and dreams to life.
We have been blessed to provided these services to the TriState Area for the past 15 years.
I’d say what sets us apart from other Event Planners and Designers is our attention to details. We recognize each Event/Wedding is unique and we embrace everything from the grand essentials to the tiniest details as a chance to be creative and showcase our Client’s Event/Wedding’s Character.
We also work closely with some of the Event Industry’s best seasoned Professional Vendors, to assure the entire Planning experience and their special day has an extra level of professionalism, class and elegance with memories to last for a lifetime.
The look of excitement and satisfaction from our clients knowing that we have nailed their vision is what makes me extremely proud.
Hard work, dedication and continuing to learn new design trends, tablescape ideas and balloon designs to further master our craft in this very fast growing & changing field is what got us to where we are today.
Starting an Event Planning & Decor Business wasn’t easy & it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. There was many sleepless nights starting out, trying to figure out inventory, funding, staffing our team & just the business end behind the planning and pretty you all see at these Events.
Reaching out to some of the Event Industry Goats that I admire really helped me throughout the beginning process. They were so inspiring & gave me those little nuggets of wisdom that you only get from 10+ years of experience in this industry and they became my mentors to this day. I still reach out from time to time for inspiration or when I hit a creative block.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to treat every Event & Client as if it was my own personal Event. Stay true to my Brand & Passion for Events and every Event or Client isn’t ours–it’s ok to decline an offer if it goes against our core values and brand (all money isn’t good money).
I’d want the world to know that Elegant Affairs takes extreme pride in every Event/Wedding we have help bring to life. We have been so extremely blessed & honored to provide Event & Wedding Services to our wonderful clients across the TriState Area for the past 15 years.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooh a whole week off omg that alone would be heaven itself. Living here in a small city I’d definitely have to create a memorable adventure for my BFF. We’d start the week off by relaxing out on my back deck with a nice glass of wine and tons of laughter while catching up, the hubs would definitely have to throw something on the grill for us.
We’d definately go & visit my sis Martina and have one of her famous Margatitas by the pool.
Mid week we’d have to go to The Sugar Shack for Karaoke Night & dinner (their Pork Chops & wings are soooooo good [chef kiss]!!) It’s a whole vibe there and a good time will definitely to be had.
By the weekend we’d go to my hometown Panama City, Florida (yes I’m a FL gal) and hang out on the beach for a few days. Eat all the oysters & seafood we could, do a little shopping at Pier Park and just relax and vibe by the water.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my Wells Men & ELE-Belle’s Team. Without them the success we’ve had over the years wouldn’t exist. They have truly been the driving force behind everything Elegant Affairs has accomplished.
